  3. Distribute any terms that are outside of a set of parenthesis. 2(5x +3) = 4x – 6 10x + 6 = 4x - 6 How do we solve equations?2(5x +3) = 4x - 6

  4. How do we solve equations?2(5x +3) = 4x - 6 • Combine any like terms that are on the same side of the equal sign. 10x + 6 = 4x – 6 No like terms!

  5. How do we solve equations?2(5x +3) = 4x - 6 • Move all variables to one side of the equal sign. 10x + 6 = 4x – 6 -4x-4x 6x + 6 = -6

  6. How do we solve equations?2(5x +3) = 4x - 6 • Move all terms that are “hanging out” to the other side of the equal sign. 6x + 6 = -6 -6-6 6x = -12
