  7. PID in ALICE

  8. Why HMPID? • High pT Suppression in AA Final Data Preliminary Data

  9. pT(assoc) > 2 GeV/c Hard associated particles → suppression 4 < pT(trig) < 6 GeV/c pT(assoc) > 0.15 GeV/c Soft associated particles→ enhancement Jet Quenching

  10. pp@LHC vs. RHIC CMS result: unexpected ‘ridge’ in high Mult. pp somewhat similar phenomenon seen at RHIC in HI collisions

  11. Nuclear Modification Factor P. Fachini (STAR) • Same RAA for ,, • Different RAA for pbar,p,Ks, e(NPE) • J/psi suppressed or not? Zhangbu Xu, QM08, Jaipur, India

  12. K/p Ratio at 900 GeV • Prel. Results: • very large K/p ratio at high pT • not reproduced by event generators

  13. HMPI Detector • RADIATOR • 15 mm liquid C6F14, n ~ 1.2989 @ 175nm, (bg)h = 1.21 • PHOTON CONVERTER • Reflective layer of CsI QE ~ 25% @ 175 nm. • PHOTOELECTRON DETECTOR • MWPC with CH4 at atmospheric pressure (4 mm gap) HV = 2050 V.
