  1. Culture Tysdal-McCarver Family History By: Carson McCarver

  2. Family Stories • The Runner – It is told of Orville Tysdal that in the pioneer days of Saskatchewan the big Avery Steam Engine broke down and all work stopped until repairs could be brought from Drinkwater, 15 miles away. The team of horses which ordinarily would be used for such a trip had just traveled 25 miles and were very tired. So Orville took off on a run for Drinkwater and brought back the repairs. He was a sturdy pioneer, and a very good cross-country runner!!

  3. Tysdal Lake • The town of Tysdal is just outside of Norway’s capitol of Oslo. • Tysdal means “Quiet valley” in Norwegian. • Tysdal Lake is named after my family • It is named after my mom’s family line, the Tysdals, Starting with Osmund Knutson Tysdal and Martha Bakken.

  4. Family Tradition • Each year for 92 consecutive years relatives from near and far have gathered to renew the loving spirit and harmony of kinship. There was always a good program of song and speeches and greetings from absent members. There was never any age who couldn’t compete in the games of horse shoes, sack races, volleyball, and baseball. It was topped off with tables set for dinner and supper. The women prepared fried chicken, beef, ham, salads, and lots of pies, cakes and coffee. It was a day to remember and everyone went away looking forward to the next year.
