  3. Define the Terms to Know • Define the terms to know from the textbook: • Amphibians * Olm • Amphiumas * Osmosis • Cloaca * Sirens • Metamorphosis * Spermatophore • Newt

  4. Frogs & Toads • Frogs: slender bodies, with long, powerful hind legs, short front legs, and webbed feet. They develop from tadpoles, & most species when fully grown can live in water or on land. Their skin is smooth and they are excellent jumpers & swimmers.

  5. Frogs & Toads (cont.) • Toads: have short, thick bodies & short legs. True toads have skin glands that produce a poison, which can be very irritating to the mucous membranes of predatory animals. Most live on land in & around moist areas.

  6. 3 Orders of Amphibians • Gymnophiona: worm-like amphibians • Caudata: newts and salamanders • Salientia: frogs & toads
