Calendar for First Semester 5 • 9/18/15 - Last day to drop/add classes • 9/21/15 - First day we begin processing college applications • 10/16/15- Last Day to submit applications to schools with early notification deadlines of November 1, 2015 • 11/17/15- Last day to turn in college applications to have them submitted before winter break • 1/1/16 - Begin filling out FAFSA for federal student aid • 1/12/16 Financial Aid/Scholarship Night • 1/28/16 Gap Year Fair • Request mid-year report through parchment.com after February 5, 2016

Calendar for Second Semester 7 • 3/1/16 Priority deadline for submitting FAFSA • 5/1/16 Deadline to accept offer of admission to most colleges • 5/2/16 - 5/13/16 AP Testing • 5/27/16 Last Day for Seniors • 6/9/16 Tentative Graduation Day • 6/24/16 Students need to request a final transcript from parchment.com for the college they plan to attend in the fall

Steps in Applying to College 8 • Complete Student Profile and Parent Brag Sheet • READ DIRECTIONS FOR EACH APPLICATION CAREFULLY! • Make a master calendar with all due dates and deadlines. • Most college applications are completed entirely online. Some colleges will use Common App, Send.edu or Universal College Websites for their applications. Some colleges will have you do YOUR part online, but will have additional forms for counselors to fill out. Any paper application forms that need to be completed by the counselor need to be turned into the records office. • Give teachers at least two weeks notification for recommendations. • Please allow up to three weeks (15 business days) for PHS to process college applicationss. • Computers for student use are available in the Counseling Office, Career Center and Media Center.

Common Application Information 9 • Over 500 schools use the Common Application. • Make sure you complete all supplements for each school. • Provide your counselor’s email address where asked at the end of the Common Application so that your counselor can complete the recommendation and school information online. • Please allow three weeks (15 business days) for processing applications at Pioneer

Additional Steps in Applying to Colleges For any type of college application that requires a counselor recommendation and or school report, please have the student email the counselor directly requesting these items with their full legal name, deadline date, and the name (s) of college (s). One email may contain multiple colleges. Students should only make their requests once their part is complete. Allow 15 business days for counselors to complete their part of application.

  11. Testing and Transcript Information 12 • Transcript must be sent through www.parchment.com • ACT test scores must be sent through www.act.org • SAT and AP test scores must be sent through www.collegeboard.com

Recommendations 13 • Counselor recommendations are based on: • Student Profile, Parent Brag Sheet, the student interview and the transcript • Students will be contacted by their current counselor if more information is needed for letters • Students/Parents can provide updated information to current counselors via email • Teacher recommendations

Important Dates 14 • 9/21/15 Begin accepting college applications in the General Office • 10/16/15 Last day to submit applications for schools with early notification deadlines of November 1 • 11/24/15 Last day to turn in applications to ensure they will be mailed by winter break this includes applications with January 1-15 deadlines) • 1/12/16 Financial Aid/Scholarship Night • 1/28/16 Gap Year Fair at Pioneer

  14. Staying on Track Senior Year 15 • Remember WHO is applying to college—encourage and help stay on track but be sure student is doing the work • Maintain a rigorous schedule the entire year • Do not drop academic classes second semester • Admission can be rescinded if grades slip and academic rigor decreases
