CAHSEE: The California High School Exit Exam • Students must pass both sections of the CAHSEE to earn a high school diploma • All sophomores will take the CAHSEE • Feb 4, 2014(ELA) • Feb 5, 2014 (Math) • If your student does not pass, he or she will have multiple opportunities during his/her junior and senior year to retest and may be placed in intervention courses during summer/school year.

PSAT • The PSAT is a Practice Test for the SAT • On average students who take the PSAT do better on the SAT • Tests are Given Only Once in October • All sophomores took the PSAT on October 16, 2013 • Counselors will review the results with the students on January 17th • Recommended to take the PSAT junior year as the student may be Eligible for National Merit Scholarship Competition

  9. PLAN • The PLAN is a Practice Test for the ACT • On average students who take the PLAN do better on the ACT • Tests are Given Only Once in October • PLAN Test was given on October 17, 2013 • Counselors will review results with the students on December 16th

  10. ACT and SAT • Best taken during the spring semester of the Junior Year • Register at www.collegeboard.org for SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject information • Register at www.actstudent.org – ACT information

  11. The “EDGE” • On campus SAT/PSAT prep course • Recommended for Juniors and Seniors and Sophomores who have completed Geometry. • Offered in Fall and Spring. • Sign up in Counseling Office • Cost $95.00

  12. Community College • Requires high school diploma • Take the Placement Test in English • Benefit: Lower cost than 4 year university • Can Transfer after 2 years to 4 Year University • “Community College IS College!” • Take math all four years • College Prep throughout high school

  13. UC Testing requirements • Must Take the SAT or ACT with writing • SAT Subject Tests are not required, but some campuses recommend that students vying for slots in competitive majors take the test to demonstrate subject proficiency • See individual school for recommendations

CSU/ UC Course Requirements (A-G) • 11 classes must be taken by end of junior year • History/Social Science - 3 Years Required • English - 4 Years Required • Mathematics - 3 Years Required, 4 Recommended   • Lab Science - 2 Years (1 year Life, 1 year physical) Required, 3 Recommended • Foreign Language - 2 Years Required, 3 Recommended • Visual/Performing Arts - 1 Year Required • College-Prep Elective - 1 Year Required
