  1. CONVERSATION STARTER Chem-to-go Lesson 7: Energy of Electrons Materials: Energy of Electrons video notes Unit 2 Practice Packet Pencil and calculator

  2. Collaborative Analysis Experience FROM YESTERDAY… • Any questions about the Atomic Mass Calculations Practice? • ADVICE: • #2 doesn’t require any math. • #5 is really tough! I will help you with it if you can’t figure it out. Students will apply knowledge to a real-world situation.

  3. Calculators • Look for any of the following buttons on your calculator. (They may be 2nd functions.) • EE • EXP • x10n Use these buttons to enter scientific notation into your calculator. NOTE: I know that many of you believe that the ^ button works, but it is inconsistent with our calculations. You’ll only get about 50% correct.

  4. Useful to calculate the energy • Useful to know how much energy is coming outof an atom • Useful to know how much energy to put intoan atom to achieve a particular color c = λν E = hν c = 3.0x108m/s h= 6.626x10-34 J·s

  5. Collaborative Analysis Experience Flame Test Experiments and the Electromagnetic Spectrum As we watch the video, let’s: Estimate the wavelength of the light based on its color Calculate the frequency of the light Calculate the energy of the light Students will adapt knowledge to an unpredictable situation.

  6. Collaborative Analysis Experience Students will apply knowledge to a real-world situation.

  7. Collaborative Analysis Experience Let’s learn how fireworks are made. Students will apply knowledge to a real-world situation.

  8. Collaborative Analysis Experience Solve the “Practice Problems: Wavelength, Frequency, Energy Content of One Quantum of Light” questions (1-7, #4 disappeared).
