Project Development Team-Who We Are • Established 12 years – 2 officers • Part of Regeneration Programmes Team, Herefordshire Council(DT on secondment to HVOSS, HMcS PD for statutory sector ) • Advice and signposting on funding/match funding/project development/business planning etc. • Support on bid writing /Assessment of applications • One funding directory per year/monthly funding update by email • Services free to access

Project Development Figures • 2004-5 – 412 enq. • 2010/11 – 641 enq. / £1.15m funding approx. • 2011/12 – 628 enq. / £2.8m funding approx. • 2012/13 – 588 enq./ £2.9m funding approx. • 2013-14 –631enq./ £3.1m funding approx. • Grants: £457,000 to £300 in 2011/12 £1.1m to £400 in 2012/13 £500,000 to £220 in 2013/14

Project Development 2014 • Continuing split sector support • Targeted support for services at risk • Targeted support for opportunities (e.g. Neighbourhood Planning, Asset Transfer) • Work on tendering / procurement • Greater emphasis on sustainability • DT secondment ends Jul.14 – 2 days per week at HVOSS from Aug.14 (Tues-Wed) • More work 

Funding Overview • Funding Levels down since 2008 by 25% approx – now stabilised • Capital – large and new build projects difficult to fund / match • Revenue-core costs hard to fund, • Greater economic/practical emphasis • Applications generally up since 2012– but overall quality is not improving.

  7. Elmley Arts Grants • Two strands – Arts Events / Arts Equipment • Covers Herefordshire and Worcestershire • Up to £1,000 • Panels every six weeks approx • www.elmley.org.uk

  8. Cargill Community Partnership • Three themes – Health and Nutrition/Environmental Stewardship/Education • Need to meet at least one Output • Regular panels • Up to £750 (need quotes) • Jane Melton 01432 362116 / jane_melton@cargill.com

EF Bulmer Benevolent Fund • Usually funding up to £3,000 • Grants to Herefordshire-based charitable organisations or groups existing for the relief of poverty or sickness of persons in Herefordshire. • Needs to make ‘genuine and significant improvement’ • Trustee Visits • Also individual awards in special cases • www.efbulmer.co.uk

  10. Herefordshire Community Foundation • Several grant schemes operated (ESF / Comic and Sport Relief / Trusts (e.g. Beckett Bulmer) etc. etc. • Most awards £1,000 or under but can apply for more • ‘Free form’ letter application • Can be running costs • www.herefordshirefoundation.org

  11. Eveson Charitable Trust • Operates Herefordshire, Worcestershire, West Midlands Conurbation • ‘Advancement of Health, Old People, Young People, Disability • Grants usually up to £8,000 • Will pay running costs • No website – contact Mr Alex Gay – 01452 501352

  12. Welcome To Our Future • Landfill Tax Funder • Main priorities around environment, conservation, biodiversity, community buildings • Must be within 10 miles of landfill or refuse site • Awards usually between £5,000 - £8,000 • www.wtof.org.uk

  13. Bodfach Trust • Funds charities in Mid Wales and borders • Interested in: affordable housing / elderly care / young people / old buildings / green spaces • Meetings with applicants • Grants around £500, maybe more • www.bodfachtrust.org.uk

Hereford City Council Community Grants • For work in City of Hereford • Non profit making organisations • Areas of interest – ‘look and feel’ of city / culture of city /improving power of communities to do things for themselves / reducing carbon footprint • Grants usually up to £3,000 • Meetings 3 times per year • www.herefordcitycouncil.gov.uk

Kingspan Community Trust • Priorities - conservation, protection and improvement of physical and natural environment / biodiversity / health and fitness of young people through recreation / road safety • Catchment areas of schools in Kington / Wigmore / Leominster / Tenbury • Likes to work with local councils • Grants up to £3,000 • www.kingspaninsulationcommunitytrust.org

  16. New Grove Community Trust • Area of operation South of River Wye (also Monmouth and Forest of Dean) • One off grants for community projects that ‘stimulate activity’ • Up to £2,000, can go higher • Simple application form • www.newgrovefarm.co.uk

  17. Herefordshire Housing Community Grants • £25,000 in 2014 pot • Projects must benefit HH residents • Applicants must have annual income less than £10,000 p.a. • Up to £2,000 in most cases, but can go up to £5,000 – must spend by Mar.2015 • Audrey Gummer 0300 777 4321

  19. Hereford Society For Aiding The Industrious • Grants to individuals • ‘For people attempting to better themselves by their own efforts’ • Education and training related • Preference for Hereford City, but potentially county wide • 01432 274014 (Wednesdays). Coun. Sally Robertson

HC Armed Forces Covenant • Established 2012-13 • Quarterly Panels (next deadline April 2013) until 2015 • Must – Demonstrate benefit to both armed forces + civilian communities / promote closer ties and a greater understanding of civilian life in the wider community • Very low take-up so far • Grants between £100 - £250,000

  21. Reaching Communities • Two stages-Round1- 3 attempts at getting into Round 2 (20% success rate across region) • Round2 – 60-70% chance of obtaining funding • 99% rejected 1st time round • Best chance if under £300k/less then 5 years

  22. Reaching Communities Latest • Was ‘politically correct’ – now (arguably) ‘political’ • Running costs reduced • Severe delays in processing applications • Applications now considered nationally • IT issues

  23. Awards For All • Now split into four sections - Sport/Arts/Heritage/Community • Grants £300-£10,000 • No match requirement • Now need quotes • Money to be spent within 12 months • Runs 52 weeks a year, 12 week turnaround • Currently taking 16-18 weeks

  24. Big Lottery Latest • 92% of funding to Third Sector • Repayment of Olympic ‘Loan’ • Community Buildings Relaunch 2013 • ‘Redistribution of monies from BIG to Arts Council/Heritage Lottery/ Sport England • Sales slightly down on previous year
