Materials for Energy • Energy technologies require new materials to increase the efficiency, reliability and service lifetime, as well as to reduce capital costs • Basic understanding is essential for developing new and improved materials. This long-term fundamental effort should be combined with engineering considerations to maximise the impact. • Materials researchers and energy specialists have to work together to achieving progress

  4. Materials for Energy • Multidisciplinary and multisectorial workis encouraged in order to combine knowledge and work across traditional boundaries • Closer collaboration between research and high-tech SMEs is essential • Going beyond conventional approach is required. Think new, be ambitious

Scope and content • The projects are to address a wide • spectrum of novel materials, • including nanomaterials, for energy applications • All technology areas of the Energy Theme are included, for example: • energy conversion and storage • photon capture • CO2 capture and storage • The research activities to be supported should go beyond conventional approaches, be novel, ambitious and of long term nature

  9. Special features • This joint call is particularly well suited for cooperation with top class research groups from Third Countries • Activities related to benchmarking and validation (testing) of the new materials, which would have a positive effect on the industrial impact, are encouraged

  10. Expected impact • The potential impact on the energy system has to be significant and well documented • Exploration of new paths • Contribution to the establishment of a strong strategic position for European science and technology

Submission • On line submission; no off-line, • no paper • Part A entered through a set of on-line forms • + • Part B uploaded (pdf file) by the applicant into EPSS • (10 pagesmaximum + 2 additional pages to describe the consortium and the estimated financial resources) • Initial checks: partnership, in-scope, requested EC contribution, • Evaluation: remote peer-review by independent experts; remote consensus meeting (tbc)

Preparing a proposal • Read carefully both the Energy • and NMP relevant parts of the Work Programme and the Call text • Respect the budgetary eligibility criterion (3M€) • Make sure your proposal is in the scope • Cover all the needed expertise (with no superfluous partners) • Follow the advice given in the Guide for Applicants

Recommendations • Make sure that your proposal is concise (max number of pages) and clear, in particular in relation to all the evaluation criteria: • Are the concept, innovation and methodology clearly explained? • Is the impact quantified and measurable? • Ask a colleague to “pre-evaluate” your proposal • Do not assume that the independent experts know everything you know. • Good luck!!!
