  41. Formula for Writing Achievements • What set of skills you used. • Who it helped. • A quantifiable measure of how it helped. Here's a list of bullet points that are NOT achievements: • Trained a developer. • Wrote some code. • Learnt OO / UML / Design Patterns.

  42. Overview To Writing A Resume To stand out from the rest, you need to address the needs of the employer.

  43. Ask yourself what qualities and abilities would make an excellent candidate for this employer. • Write down each of these on a sheet of paper and put them into some order of priority.

  44. Your next assignment is to address how you can demonstrate your fit to each of the things that are wanted. • Brainstorm everything you have done that addresses those issues, not necessarily work related.

  45. Split your resume into two sections • The first section is where you identify how you have met the employer's needs - your advertisement about you. This is where you honestly assert your objectives and your abilities to benefit the employer. • The second section is your evidence, including your employment history, academic qualifications etc.

  46. Section One - ‘Advertisement' • Career Objective • Summary (Profile) • Skills and Accomplishments

  47. Section Two - Evidence • Professional Experience • Education • Awards • Professional Memberships of Affiliations • Community Involvement • Publications • Personal Interests

  48. High Impact Targeted CV?

  49. Who gets the interview and job offer? Best candidate suited for the job? Not necessarily! Candidate who has the best CV? Very likely!

  50. A good CV will focus on using your skills to deliver value to a potential client, rather than telling the employer what you want to get out of the position. The employer is paying you to help them, not the other way around. Putting your career aims on a CV is like a salesman trying to convince you to buy their products because ‘they will get good commission and be able to afford a lovely new home!’
