  2. Lesson Objectives • To know how to plan effectively for section B of the English Language Exam. • Aim: To create a recipe for successful planning!

  3. Audience • Format Write an article for a teenage magazine in which you explain some of pressures on young people today.

  4. Write down the P.A.F. for this question: • Your school or college is inviting entries for a writing competition. The topic is “Dangerous sports activities and pastimes are selfish, often put others at risk and should be discouraged.” Write your entry arguing for or against this view. (24 marks)

  5. Write an article for a teenage magazine in which you explain some of pressures on young people today. • Exams • Revision • Self-image • Social networking • Family • Peer pressure • Friendships • Technology Using a mind-map or list, make a note of all of your ideas

  6. Make a list or mind-map of points you could make in response to this question (you should have plenty of ideas as we discussed this last lesson!) – • Your school or college is inviting entries for a writing competition. The topic is “Dangerous sports activities and pastimes are selfish, often put others at risk and should be discouraged.” Write your entry arguing for or against this view. (24 marks) If you are unsure whether to argue ‘for’ or ‘against’ then do one for each.

Group together the ideas you have come up with and, if you have not yet done so, decide whether you have stronger ideas ‘for’ or ‘against’. • Your school or college is inviting entries for a writing competition. Now you have identified your paragraphs you need to organise them into the most effective order... • Exams, revision – pressure of exams and schoolwork – thinking about future careers etc. • Self – image, peer pressure – talk about how pressure to look a certain way, stereotypes, celebrities in media, fear of bullying, attractiveness etc • Friendships, - maintaining them, socialising, new experiences, pressure to do things – peer pressure • Social Networking, technology – facebook, MSN, up-to-date phones etc • Family life – balancing home with social life and school work. • Exams, revision • Social networking, technology • Friendships, Peer pressure • Self – image, Peer pressure • Family Try to put your strongest idea first! This is a good time to add more detail to your plan

Organise your paragraphs into a logical order and add more detail (this is a good time to note any language techniques you might use too). • Your school or college is inviting entries for a writing competition.
