An Introduction to GN3/NA2/PSP <TF-PR Meeting><Zurich, Switzerland><29/09/2008> Laura Durnford (ipv Dale Robertson)PR Officerdurnford@terena.orgwww.terena.org
Why discuss it now? • More detail on Wednesday • some people not here then • gives thinking time • Greater role for NREN PR in GN3 • collaboration with NREN PRs vital - role for TF-PR as well as PR Network • Get NREN PR input at early stage
GN3 is… • Successor to GN2 • funded by EU and NRENs • Proposal submitted 11 Sep 2008 • negotiation / acceptance • Starts March 2009 (if all goes well) • Much more focused on services • Roll out of multi-domain end user services • More dependent on NREN collaboration <lastname@terena.org>
NA2 is… • PR activity = ‘Joint Dissemination and Outreach’ • Activity Leader = DANTE (Mel & Dale) • Less well-funded • Comprises 7 tasks: • T1 = Strategy, Planning & Messaging • T2 = Partner Services Promotion • T3 = Web-based Communications • T4 = Materials – printed & AV • T5 = Press & News • T6 = External Events • T7 = Focused Market Research
NA2 will… • Develop & implement comms plans with: Activity Leaders & PR Network (& TF-PR) for GN3: • Project • Network • Services • JRAs • NAs • Build on GN2 branding in GN3 • Provide web-presence • Organise external events • Enhance project’s internal communications
PSP is… • “very important new task” within NA2 • Task Leader = TERENA (Laura – 0.8 FTE) • Focused on services • “Recognising the need for developing multi-domain user service… to engage in dialogue with NREN resources to encourage the consistent roll out of advanced services.” • Focused on NRENs – formal recognition ‘in it together’ • “Leading role lies with NRENs… assist by providing tools, materials and assistance so can counduct dissemination in own countries” • “support NREN PR activity to speed up dissemination and deployment of services by NRENs, and take up by end users” • To coordinate with JRAs & SAs developed services (SA3 end-user services in federated environment) • where possible… go hand in hand with ‘cookbooks’ & training
PSP will… • Assist NRENs with their dissemination plans & tools for end user services • Work with SA3 – end user services in federated environment • Work with T1 - pan-European comms planning • Take pan-European implementation / ideas to NRENs via PR Network & return ideas/ information from NRENs • which NRENs are interested • how the plans/materials can be adapted on a per-country basis • Report annually - dissemination activity on GN3 services
Grand questions… • What services do we mean? • What support can we offer? • How can we make this work?
Questions emailed… • What services does your NREN offer now? • What services planned in the coming year or two? • What kind of promotion been for existing services? • What kind of effect on uptake of services? • Are the reasons for success / failure / bottlenecks known? • What kind of promotion work for services is planned? • What kind of assistance might help? • How do YOU think NRENs, TERENA and DANTE could best work together to promote services more effectively?
GN services questions… • Are you aware of perfSONAR / eduroam / eduGAIN / eduPERT / AutoBAHN as a service? • Have you promoted them in your local area? • What methods / activities were successful? • Are you planning on any promotion? • What materials would be useful to you for this?
