Your Driving Responsibility • Assume the responsibility to be a safe driver. • Obey all the rules of the road • Make sure your vehicle or any vehicle you drive is properly insured • What a license will mean to you: • Independence • Increased mobility • First Legal recognition of your status as an adult.

  5. Requirements for an Instruction Permit • A. Education • 30 hours of classroom • 6 hours behind the wheel • B. Age 1. 15-17 • C. Testing • Written • Vision

  6. Requirements for an Instruction Permit continued • D. Fee • $20.00 • $5.00 for a duplicate • E. Identification 1. County issued birth certificate • A. hospital birth certificate not accepted 2. Social security card 3. Student I.D. 4. Permit application signed by parent, guardian and instructor

  7. Requirements for an Instruction Permit continued • F. Issued • 30 days prior to enrollment in a driver education class • Valid for 2 years • II. With whom may your drive with your permit? • Instructors, parents, guardians, or person over 21 approved by your parents. The adult must have one year driving experience and sit beside you.

  8. Cooperative Driver Testing Program • A. Grades: Earn a combined A or B in the classroom and BTW (Behind the Wheel) • B. Road test: given by your instructor • C. Cooperative Driver Testing Certificate • 1. Received upon successful completion • 2. Must be signed by instructor & parent • D. Spot check dates: • Students whose birthdays fall on certain dates will be required to pass a road test at a state facility.

The Drivers License at Age 16 • Pass both the classroom and driving phase • Have a permit for at least 9 months • 50 hours of supervised practice with adult over age of 21 • Pass a driving test with your instructor or at the drivers license facility • Bring your 3 acceptable forms of ID • Fee: NONE • License expires: 3 months after 21stbirthday • Cost of new = $30.00

Change of Name or Address • You must visit the driver’s service facility within 30 days after a name change. • You must contact the Secretary of State’s office of an address change within 10 days. • You can visit the driver’s services facility, write to them or visit them at www.cyberdriveillinois.com

  12. I.D. Fraud • Class A Misdemeanor • For using a factious or altered license • Using someone else’s license • Letting someone use your license • Fine • Fines up to $2500 • 1 year jail time • License suspension for 1 year

  13. License Classifications • Class D: The basic license to operate a car • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) for Class A, B, C Vehicles. Includes trucks and buses. You must have a license for 3 years, written and driving test. • Motorcycles: • Class L: <150 cc • Class M: Any motorcycle. Must be 18 or take approved motorcycle class. *Note: You may not drive a vehicle even if it is rented or borrowed, unless you have proper license classification. (ie. Renting a truck to move furniture)

  14. Organ Tissue Donor Registry • You wish to donate organs/tissues • You must be 18 to join • Persons under 18 are encouraged to discuss their wishes to donate with their family
