  2. 1. Paul is paid £5 per hour • One day Paul works for 4hours 15 minutes. Calculate his total pay 4.25 X 5 £21.25 2 Marks (b) Shelley is paid 50% more per hour than Paul. One day Shelley earned £48.75 How long did she work during that day? Give your answers in hours and minutes Shelley is paid £7.50 per hour 48 .75 ÷ 7.50 = 6.5 Answer 6 hours 30 mins 4 marks

  3. 2 (a) A camera was priced at £68. in a sale the camera costs 76% of its original price. Calculate the cost of the camera in the sale. 0.76 X 68 2 Marks = £51.68 • The price of a roll of film is reduced from £4 to £3.50 • Calculate the reduction as a percentage of its original price (50 ÷ 400) x 100 3 Marks = 12.5 % It takes 20mins to develop a roll of film. This time is to the nearest minute. What is the least and greatest time this could be? Least :- 19.5 minutes Greatest :- 20.5minutes 2 Marks

  6. 5. Write the number 0.000 000 38 in standard form Answer: 3.8 x 10-7 1 mark Violet light has a wavelength of 0.000 000.38 metres Work out the wavelength of violet light in centimetres. Give your answer in standard form. (3.8 x 10-7) X 100 = 3.8 x 10-7 x 102 = 3.8 x 10-5 centimetres 2 marks

  7. 6. The time in minutes (T) for meals to be served at a busy restaurant is inversely proportional to the square of the number of waiters (W) working at that time. It takes 20 minutes for meals to be served when 12 waiters are working. (a) Find an equation connecting T and W T T = 3 marks (b) What is the minimum number of waiters that must be working for a meal to be served within 30 minutes. T = k = T x W2 W2 = 2880 ÷ 30 W2 = 96 When T = 20 W = 12 W = √ 96 = 9.79 k = 20 x 122 = 2880 3 marks Need 10 waiters

  8. Bales of hay are 18 inches high correct to the nearest inch. The bales are stacked six high on a lorry trailer. The surface of the trailer is 36inches above the ground correct to the nearest inch. What is the lowest bridge that the trailer and bales will definitely fit under? You must show all your working. Bales are 17.5 to 18.5 inches Surface of trailer is 35.5 to 36.5 inches Largest height of bales plus trailer is 6 x 18.5 + 36.5 = 147.5 inches Answer : lowest bridge is 147.5 inches 4 marks
