  3. What are castles for? The first castles were built by the Normans over 1,000 years ago and lasted 500 years. Medieval castles are castles that were made in the time in 1066 when the Normans were around When William became the king ( of England) needed a place to stay so the Normans had a idea to make a castle .

  4. First type of castle The Normans made the mote and bailey in 1066. They wear not water proof and they wear not firer proof. There are earth castles called Mote and Bailey. Mote and Baileys were built on a hilltop so that archers could have a better aim at the enemy. They could also spot invaders from miles around. They were not very good because they were not strong and foes could break through the figure easily.

  5. Stone keep • The next type of castle was the stone keep castle. The stone keep castles were much more difficult to knock down because they were made of stone, which was much stronger. This is a diagram of a stone keep castle.

  6. moat castles • Moat castles were used for another line of defence . The moats were very deep to drown the enemy. The drawbridge was used to cross the moat, but if enemies got on the drawbridge they would bring it up to stop them from getting into the castle. . The moat castles were made by King William the conker

  7. Concentric castles • Concentric castles were mar pettish . • They were not essay to nook dawn . Concentric castles were developed in the 12th and 13th centuries . When arrows try and fire at the castle they bounce off it then the foe can not get the army or who is in it.
