  2. It’s time to liven up our colors with more words! When we use other words to describe colors our writing is more interesting…more vivid! So let’s get started.

  3. Do you remember those first colors and learning the names? • red • yellow • • blue • green • Then you learned purpleand orange even brown black and white

  4. We learned the basics first red yellow blue

  5. Can you imagine the“Wizard of Oz”with the “Red Slippers” ? We can say or describe red with many other words. Rubyslippers cherry carnelian flame blood cardinal rose

  6. We had to keep it simple to start. But then came those new words to

  7. Yellow ? That’s fine for little kids, but we’re 4th graders! Would you go to… “Camp Yellow” ? Would you say… “Please pass the yellow”? Would you picture a…“yellow sunset? golden sunset

  8. What about blue? azure sapphire sky cerulean turquois So why say “blue” with so many other choices?

  9. Green, isn’t just green…. jade emerald shamrock kelly grass, leaves verdant pasture lime

  10. So many, many, words that we can use to say a color word. Not white, but vanilla Not purple, but amethyst Not black, but onyx Not brown, but chocolate Not orange, but mango Not grey, but smoke

  11. Let’s see how different word choices can make our writing more interesting. She wore a green dress. She wore a dress of kelly green The sunset glowed red , orange and yellow. The sunset glowed flame, golden and deep mango He had gorgeous blue eyes. He had cerulean eyes

  12. 64 colors? 64 names! 102 colors 102 names! A color word for every imaginable color.
