Graduation Requirements 24 Credits • APS Course Graduation Requirements • 4 Units of English • 4 Units of Math • 4 Units of Science • 3 Units of Social Studies • 2 Units of Foreign Language • ½ Unit of Physical Education, ½ Unit of Personal Fitness, and ½ Unit of General Health • 1 Unit of CTAE, Fine Arts, JROTC, or Pathway • 4 Units of Electives (i.e Art, JROTC, Music, Band, etc.) • Community Service hours 75

Community Service • Need a minimum of 75 Hours • Leadership opportunities for resume • Must be submitted to Ms. Smith before November 1st to participate in Senior Investiture • Both sides of the community service form must be completed prior to submission to Ms. Smith • Community Service form can be obtained in Ms. Smith’s office or the website

  6. Credit Recovery Options • Georgia Credit Recovery (Not NCAA Certified) • Applications are now available in Ms. Smith’s office

  7. Alternative Credit Options • West End Academy (NCAA Certified) • Alonzo CrimNight School (NCAA Certified) • Contact Mr. Beasley for more information

  8. Comprehensive Exam • If you failed a course at any point and received a grade between 60-69 you are eligible to take the Comprehensive Exam • The Comprehensive Exam will exempt you from taking the class again if you pass with a 70 or higher and pass the milestone test if one is associated with the course • Comprehensive exam will be given in January or February 2019 • Maximum of 2 courses is allowed for testing

  9. Dual Enrollment • Minimum overall GPA of 80 and Above • Accuplacer (Testing the second week of September, sign up in the counselors office • Math 67 • Reading 23 • Writing 5 • SAT • Composite 970 • 24 Reading • 22 Math • ACT • Composite of 20 • 17 English • 17 Math

Transcript, Recommendation, and Test Scores • Transcripts • In state (Georgia) • Students must request that their transcript be sent via the GAfutures website • Out of state • Students must request that their transcript via the Mays High School website counselor request link • Test Scores • Test scores must be sent through the testing agency, SAT or ACT…Ms. Smith does not send test scores

Transcript, Recommendation, and Test Scores (con’t) • Recommendation Letters • Provide recommender a resume • Present to recommender at least two weeks before due date • Recommender can be teachers, counselors, employers community leaders, pastors, etc • Example of a resume can be found in the counselors office or the Mays High school website

  19. Achieve Atlanta Scholarship 4 year college/university: $5,000 per year 80 gpa 2 year college & technical: $1,500 per year 75 gpa *MUST COMPLETE FAFSA *NO ESSAY REQUIRED

College Representative Visit Process • College Rep visits will take place during the day at Mays High School • College Rep passes will only be given out the day of visit on the senior hall at the blue wall from 8:15am to 8:35am • Ms. Smith and/or the college advisors will hand out all college rep visit passes • Fliers, remind101, and the senior news bulletin board will provide the date, time, and location of the college visit

  21. Armed Services • Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB) • Administered once a semester • Sign up with counselor • Score-1-99 for enlistment • Army 31 • Navy 45 • Air Force 50 • Marines 31 • National Guard 31

Communities in Schools of Atlanta TARGET 2021 PROGRAM Communities In Schools of Atlanta works inside K-12 schools full time to build relationships with students that empower them to stay in school and succeed in life. WHO ARE WE • The purpose of Target 2021 is to provide students who were possibly impacted by the CRCT score anomalies targeted supports delivered via the development and implementation of individual learning plans designed (ILP’s) to position them towards proficiency for graduation and equip them with post secondary options.

Honor Stole • Seniors with an overall 80 or above cumulative GPA after 1st semester grades post, Qualify for the Honor Stole which will be worn at Visions and the Graduation • Approved students will receive a letter in February from Ms. Smith • Honor Stole payment must be received no later than March 21, 2019

Graduation Cords • All graduation cords and eligibility are the sole responsibility of the advising teacher of that organization • All related finances and distribution of the cords will be handled by the advising teacher of the organization • Counselors are not the point of contact for honor cords

  27. Scholarship information to be placed in commencement program In order for Scholarships to appear in the commencement programs, official written documentation must be submitted to me by April 17, 2019

Graduation Information • Senior and Commencement Ceremony Agreement signed and returned to Ms. Smith by September 30, 2018 • A ticket is required for guest admission; all guests must have an admission ticket regardless of age or status **Graduation time, date and location will be provided at the February 13, 2019 senior parent meeting**

  36. Visions of the Future and Graduation Attire Male • Black slacks (no denim or fashion accents) • White long-sleeved business shirt • Solid black necktie (no bowties or string ties) • Black socks • Black shoes (no athletic shoes) Female • White dresses or white blouses/white skirts • Neutral or beige stockings • White shoes (no open toes, open heels or sling backs)
