  2. What did the Liberals do? Free School Meals 1906 Provided children with one meal a day on school days and in some cases, during the holidays. •  • By 1914 had given 14 million free meals •  • Not compulsory so only 50% of councils participated.

  3. What did the Liberals do? Medical Inspections Act (1907) Gave children free annual medical inspections to check for lice & other contagious diseases. •  • Ineffective as only around 13% of recognised contagious diseases were actually treated. • Parents had to pay for medical care. •  • Further highlighted to govt. the severity of ill health amongst children.

  4. What did the Liberals do? Children’s Charter Stopped children from begging, smoking and drinking. •  • Deprived children of their earnings. 
