  1. What’s Health Got to Do With It?Community Themes and Strengths AssessmentPublic ForumFebruary 29th, 2012WSU-TC

  2. What would you do to make the community a better place to live? More community activities Ensure competition for smaller businesses, including the smaller hospitals- like KGH and Lourdes Close streets to cars more often Educate new mothers about the importance of activity and lifetime sports, not just getting involved in structured sports Safe bike paths & bike lanes. Sidewalks Need opera house A whole foods grocery store improve walkability. Make sidewalks & walking attractive. Ensure access to health care for poor people create a network of open spaces and trails Establish regional priorities adopted by and incorporated into 4-city planning and priority Incentivize small business somehow. Rents are VERY HIGH in commercial areas. Finish sidewalks-sidewalks to stores from street. Bike racks at service type & restaurant business. Develop stronger aesthetic codes & enforce them ( uptown and central clearwater) Work with landlords Encourage better neighbors or help improve the neighborhood concept Stop with fencing everyone in Pasco a goal would be to get more of the community members involved in the community. 3. What one asset in our community is particularly special to you? • Our parks • The parks and rivers • Howard Amon Park. I live in a bad neighborhood in Kennewick and I drive to Richland just to go to this park. It is safe and well maintained and attendees are more respectful of public space. • The friendly neighborhood community feeling- small town friendliness in a bigger city setting. • Hiking/Biking trails • Rivershore parks • the walk throughs around old Spaulding elementary (now Liberty Christian) that makes neighborhood walkable and the Bypass trails • River front and parks • the natural environment • Emerald of Siam for music • good economy/ job opportunities • Hillside. Streamside • Rivershore parks. • Badger Mountain • Columbia River • Safe parks/trails... running and biking • Open Space • The parks on the river. • The parks and the rivers • the river • Philanthropy • Columbia River

  4. Please share other comments/ideas regarding the Community Health Needs Assessment Affordable student housing. Better homeless aid. Personal accountability. Mold control in apartments. City Athletic recreation center I hope outcome is widely publicized. Get people out of their cars!!!!! for biking to businesses please provide storage lock boxes for small fee so bikes aren't stolen Economic status greatly effects the way one answers this survey. Efforts need to be made to assess the opinions of the economically disadvantaged. Lots of things look OK when you have money! There is no substitute for personal responsibility Takes quite awhile to complete & distracts from presenters. Include more clarifying data re: person completing survey. 99337 is a huge area- answers will differ from center of city to person living in Finley/County Combine Reach aquatic center and performing arts within walking distance to each other. Shared parking Community gardens/community kitchens. Ski/snowboard clubs. Intramural sports. I think the poor population is not represented well. This promotes the poor becoming poorer and the rich making things better for themselves. Not on purpose, but because they don't know.
