2. Introduction As I sat there gazing into the distance, I dreaded the next invasion. Every year our army has been getting smaller and it’s been harder to find new recruits. The Romans came to Egypt. We didn’t stand a chance. Out of nowhere a white pigeon appeared and settled on my knee. A message was tied around its neck with a piece of string. I was surprised to see itwas addressed to me. I wondered who it could be from, I didn’t really know anyone out of town. I untied the bow and slipped out the letter. Never in the whole of my life had I received a message or letter. It really quite surprised me.

3. I knew they must’ve been wealthy if they could afford to send a message by pigeon. The message was beautifully written in golden ink. I read it aloud. Dear Bryony, as you know we are expecting the Romans to come and invade. We need you to save our country. You must embark on a dangerous and adventurous voyage. Enclosed with the message there is a scroll, this is your map. It will guide you to the starting place for your adventure, the rest you will decide yourself. Good luck. Yours sincerely, the King.

4. Was it reality, did the king really send me a message saying I needed to save Egypt. Me, but Iwas just a kid. Well I had nothing to lose. I looked at my scroll raising an eyebrow. I headed for north with nothing but a snack bar. It felt like I’d been walking forever. Finally I got there. I saw a post with two signs pointing opposite ways. They said Evil and Eviler. Which way did I go. Eviler Evil

5. Chapter 1:The witches’ lair. I chose evil. So was it a trick or not? Well I was about to find out. There was a big, black, solid door standing in front of me with a cold metal handle. My hand automatically reached out to grab it. Cackles filled the air. Witches. Three of them. Great! Standing in the middle of the room was a big rock so I ran and hid behind it. One of the witches turned round “I smell children. A young girl.” “Don’t be silly.” said the other witch. That’s when I spotted it, the scarab beetle. There was my goal. But three ugly cackling witches stood in my way. It was behind the eyes of newts. So I looked around the room to see if anything could help me. Eureka!!! That was it I’d use the witches spell book.

6. I picked it up and flicked through the pages what should I turn myself into newts no, snails no. That’s it I’d turn myself into a bat. I whispered the words and POOF! I was a bat. I turned to my target. I was like a bomber, eye on the prize. Finally I plucked up the courage and flew towards the scarab beetle. I perched myself on the shelf and grabbed it. I had succeeded. But suddenly I was grasped around the waste, I wriggled and squirmed but it was no use. They plonked me down on the chopping board “hahahah a nice bat stew for tea tonight I think!” They pulled out a butcher’s knife. Oh no!! I was mincemeat.

7. Then I felt a funny feeling that I had never felt before, what was it? Thatwas it. It said that the spell only lasted 10 minutes I was growing back into a human. But witches hate humans especially children. So I made a run for it towards the other door (with the scarab beetle still in my hand) I locked the door behind myself. I didn’t have long. There was two options circle or square? I didn’t care what one as long as I was out of this place. I put the scarab beetle in the scarab beetle shape. Both doors opened… What one did I choose circle or square? Circle Square

8. Chapter 1The flower garden I used my instincts and went down the path saying eviler thinking itwas a trick. All around me I saw beautiful flower beds. Bluebells, roses, poppies and orchids all awaited me. I felt like a princess. In the moment I lay down on the sweet smelling green grass. In front of me I saw an inviting little green house, as my nosy self I went in to have a look whatwas inside. It was empty and lonely no plants were in site. Itwas all quiet until suddenly evil radish type coloured plants sprouted out of the heaps of soil next to me, they weren’t at all happy. I saw there large teeth. They looked hungry. I tried to open the door behind me but itwas stuck, therewas no way out. Iwasn’t going to get out there alive was I? In the blink of an eye one of the human eating, living monsters sucked me in. That was the end of my journey. Try again

9. Chapter 2:Fire breath I walked through the door which was very circular. Oof! I tripped over a chain, I wondered where it lead to so I followed it. Well it didn’t take long until I found sat at the end of it a cat like creature. I looked closer it seemed harmless. It had another chain attached to the other side of his neck. So again I followed it. It led to a larger room there in the middle was a… what was it? I walked around inspecting it. It didn’t move and it didn’t seem to make a sound then I got to the head it was a… a… a DRAGON! I rushed back towards the cat like creature realizing that it was a baby dragon too. Oh no, what was I going to do. I was stuck in a room trying to find a way out.

10. Then the dragon awoke. She looked angry. She was angry, and I was toast. I stepped up to her to see if I could calm her which I know is stupid but that’s me. She took a deep breath in AND AGGGGHHHHH BURNING BURNING BURNING!!!!! My hair! A chunk of it had been burnt off. But therewas no time for moaning now I needed to get out of the range of the dragon. Yes another door. I raced towards it and Iwas through. Three bottles were on the floor in front of me. What one did I drink out of friend, foe or fire? Friend Foe Fire

11. Chapter 2The Great Barrier Reef I ended up in front of a huge ocean. Iwas standing on a tiny island with nothing but sand and a palm tree. Heavy rain fell from the sky, I thought to myself how am I going to get off this island, would I ever? would I die from starvation and rot? After a lot I thinking I realised I must swim. I didn’t know where it would take me but it was worth a try. Itwas better than just sitting there doing nothing. I jumped into the freezing cold ocean and swam like my life depended on it ,which really it did. I could see something in the distance, it looked like a light house. There could be someone there whocould help me I thought. Hooray Iwas saved and even if the light house was empty it was better than nothing. Iwas swimming as fast as I could now but I was losing my breath, I ignored it and sang to myself just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

12. I finally arrived at the light house and pulled myself onto the ground. The door was huge in front of me. I knocked, but therewas no reply. My mouth was now as dry as a desert and I really needed a drink. Luckily the door was unlocked so I pushed it open and stepped inside. It looked empty and old, maybe people lived here years ago. On the table there were three tempting bottles filled with water but if they’ve been there years they might not be safe to drink. The bottles were labelled friend, foe and fire. How strange. Iwas so thirsty I picked up a bottle and gulped down the refreshing liquid. Foe Friend Fire

13. Finish: Friend That drink was refreshing. This room had black and white checked tiles with nothing on the walls apart from a dull shade of brown. This place could do with a lick of paint, I thought to myself. Then I heard a rumble like a hungry stomach. The ground opened up and swallowed me into the stomach. This was a disaster Iwas never going to be a hero.

14. Finish: Fire The drink wasn’t very refreshing. The room was big and black it had no windows and a big cage was stood in the middle with a blow torch about a meter away from it. What was in the cage? I walked up to it, in there was a mirror and a rope. I looked at it long and hard suddenly I was transported into the cage. How was I going to get out?

15. Then it came to me I grabbed the rope and made a loop big enough to go around the nozzle of the blow torch. I threw the rope through the bars and got it onto the nozzle. I pulled the rope in and the blow torch too. I picked up the blow torch and cut the bars so it was big enough to get out of. Once the hard work was done I sprinted towards the exit. I was home. I was a failure. I couldn’t show my face in Egypt again. So I ran away…

16. Finish:foeEmerald city I suddenly appeared in a glass dome. All around me I see beautiful ornaments made of pot and glass. A huge door stands in front of me which fancy letters are carved into it. They read, one is destined to have greatness and lead us all to victory. I open the golden door and step inside. I see a grand throne with a man sitting on it. He has long hair and a long white beard as white as snow. “Greetings, Bryony,” the man speaks to me. “Hello, I’m looking for the book of the gods, the King sent me here, I need to save Egypt from invasion,” I say. “I see,” he speaks. He stands up and walks to a large chest. He opens it and lifts out the book of the gods. He searches through it and stops on a page.

17. From the book he reads, “From the power of the gods, grant this girl her wish.” Suddenly the room starts spinning, what is happening, I land on the floor in front of my house. . Everyone around me is cheering and celebrating something. ”What’s all this about,” I say. Everyone around me is cheering and celebrating something. ”What’s all this about,” I say. “We’re having a street party to celebrate our victory, someone anonymous went to this place called Emerald city and saved us all, If only we knew who they were.” The end
