  1. What Does It Mean to be Magnetic? Magnets

  2. Magnets • For objects to be magnetic they must have the metal known as Iron in it.

  3. Magnets • A magnetis a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials, such as iron, and attracts or repels other magnets.

  4. Horseshoe Magnet

  5. Horseshoe Magnet • A "horseshoe magnet" made of alnico, an iron alloy. The magnet is made in the shape of a horseshoe to bring the two magnetic poles close to each other, to create a strong magnetic field there that can pick up heavy pieces of iron

  6. Magnetic Poles • The north pole of a magnet is the pole that, when the magnet is freely suspended, points towards the Earth's North Magnetic Pole in the Arctic. • Opposite poles attract in a magnet and come together.

  7. North Pole • The North Pole is found in the Arctic.

  8. South Pole • The South Pole is found in the Antarctic.

  9. Personality • If someone says you have a “magnetic personality” that means people like to be with you because you are nice, you care about others, and you are fun to be around.
