  1. Magnets By: Lana Tso

  2. Lodestones • The first magnets were naturally-magnetized pieces of magnetite called lodestone . • Lodestone is a mineral that is naturally magnetized.

  3. Lodestones

  4. Poles • There are North and South poles • The poles affect whether or not the magnets will attract or repel

  5. Poles

  6. Attracting • Attracting is when magnetism , the imaginary force, is pulling the other magnet closer to another magnet • You can create attracting by putting oppositepoles together

  7. Opposite Magnetic Poles “Attracting”

  8. Repelling • Repelling is when magnetism is pushing against the magnets • You can create repelling by putting the same poles together

  9. Repelling If you put the same poles of a magnet near each other, they will push away.

  10. Electromagnets • Electromagnets are magnets that you can turn on and off • If you want to build a small electromagnet you will need : a metal/copper wire wrapped around a nail , and a battery that will be connected to the wire wrapped nail

  11. Electromagnets

  12. Attracting items • Magnets have other objects that attract to them too such as iron, nickel , cobalt , and most types of steel
