Why we implemented the APEX Program at MHS eight years ago? • The School Improvement Team (SIT) goal for increasing academic achievement includes increased numbers of students taking AP tests as well as increased performance in earning scores of “3” or higher. • Rigorous AP coursework acclimates high school students to the challenges of college-level courses.

  4. -Continued • APEX Scholars are recognized by competitive colleges. • APEX Scholars can remain an integral part of the Middletown High School community rather than transfer to another county school to access programs for gifted learners.

  5. Additional APEX Benefits • Students are part of a smaller learning community in their freshman and sophomore years. • Support is provided by the Program Coordinator. • Students are challenged to take more rigorous classes. • Scholars are recognized at graduation and on school transcripts. • College Board recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction.
