  2. Mark Zuckerberg in 2003 as a Sophomore in Harvard made a site called Hot or Not using only Harvard students pictures. • Mark was accused of misleading three Harvard Seniors in making a website called Harvard connection.com • Facebook is a social network service launched in February 2004

  3. Users must register before using the site then create a personal profile, add friends and exchange messages with another Facebook user. • Opened to anyone 13 and over but there are 7.5 million children under the age of 13 with accounts and 5 million under 10 years old.

  6. Walls- post messages for users to see • Pokes- users poke each other • Photos- upload albums and photos • Tags- tag friends in a photo or photos • Status- allows users to inform their friends actions and where they are located

  7. Facebook enables users to choose their own privacy settings and can choose who can see part of their profile. • Users can control who sees other information such as status and messages.

  8. Facebook requires true identity • MySpace does not require identity • MySpace allows different fronts • Facebook allows users to interact with one another with walls, pokes, photos and status.

  9. November 2010- Facebook value was 41 million • March 2012- available to iPhone and android • July 2012- added gay marriage • August 2012- new version of Facebook • September 2012- one billion users
