  6. NARRATIVE TEXT Example: The Jealous Crow Far, far away there was a grove of shady mangotrees. On one of the green trees there lived a cuckooand a crow. They were quite alike in appearance. Boththe birds were black. Only the crow was a little bigger.The cuckoo would lay all her eggs in the crow's nest.For quite sometime they lived as good friends. The cuckoo had a sweet voice and often she would fill thegrove with her sweet melody. Orientation

  7. Evaluation One day, a traveler passed by. Night fell and therewas darkness all around. The traveler was tired. So hedecided to spend the night under the huge mango treeon which the crow and the cuckoo lived. The night was exceedingly pleasant. Full moonwas shedding her lone luster in the sky. The eeriesurrounding made the cuckoo feel supremely happy.She kept singing the whole night long and the passerbywas simply captivated by cuckoo's sweet song.

  8. Complication Night passed. The day dawned. It was now thecrow's turn to caw. His voice was so harsh to the earsthat the traveler soon left the place. When the crow sawthe traveler leave the place, in disgust he felt jealousof the sweet-voiced bird. When the cuckoo had goneaway in search of food the crow went to the nest indesperation and breaking all the eggs, he threw them down. The cuckoo, finding all her eggs smashed, was madwith grief. She went to the crow and said, "Oh brother,we had always lived like friends. What made you break all my eggs?" "Well sister, as you sang, the unknown traveler stayed the whole night. When I started cawing he leftthe place. I felt insulted and broke all your eggs. Nowlet us both go to the traveler and ask him why he did so."

  9. Resolution So, both the birds flew and flew till they spottedthe traveler. When the crow asked him, he replied, "Iwas carried away by the cuckoo's enchanting voice butyour voice was intolerably harsh. So, I left the place.But both of you have been old friends, so you shouldalways live in harmony. You should not feel jealous of your friend." These words of the passerby pacified both cuckoo and the crow. After that day they lived peacefully. The just and kind words of a traveler destroyed theill feeling of jealousy in the crow just as a sprinkling ofa little cold water settles the boiling milk. Taken from Tales of Wisdom, 2002

  13. Example of Spoof Text Punishment Social function: to share with others a real story of which the ending is funny to amuse the audience or readers. Generic structure: Orientation : the opening of the story which sets the scene. Events : the details of the events in the story. Twist : the funny or unpredictable ending of the story.

HORTATORY EXPOSTITION TEXT On School Discipline Thesis Being on time is a beautiful socialethic and one of greatimportance, as itcreates efficiency in systems and impliesrespect for one another. However, it isone of the many values that a schoolmust inculcate into its students over time. Discipline is not something thatmust be slapped onto a child like handcuffs.

  15. Argument Inner discipline, one that comesfrom within due to an understandingof the set rules and regulations, isthe highest form of behavior. Mostexcellent schools try to instill this with a loving environment. Why, even adults arrive late to meetings, work, etc–admittedly shamefaced. Here, we are talking about children. Latecomers should not be shut out.They can be given warnings, most ofwhich are enough to make them wantto reach school on time. If this fails, talk to the parents. By closing its gates, the school is behaving cruelly and coldly–treatment to which we prefer not to expose our children.

Every school has a responsibility toimplement educational concepts in theappropriate context, not just those schoolsthat follow international standards andare generally unaffordable for the majority. Good schools create competitive students who can organize themselves effectively in society so that everyonegets a quality life as a result of ethicsand values imbibed into students foras long as 12 years. Argument Children are precious, and aredependent on adults for guidance andwe must not take advantage of this.Understanding them is the key, and tothis end, both parents and schools mustwork hand in hand without playing the blame game.
