SWW Regional Economic Development Strategy • By 2030 SWW will be a confident, ambitious & connected City Region, recognised internationally for its emerging knowledge and innovation economy • Objectives: • Change the sectoral mix of the SWW economy with a clear shift towards higher level sectors • Change the occupational mix of the SWW economy through a shift towards higher level occupations • Reduce the GVA per employee deficit to 90% of the UK by 2030

Swansea Bay City Region • City Region Task & Finish Group reported to WG July 2012 • Global trends indicate that urban growth, and cities are the engine of economic growth • Wales does not have large cities (500,000+) but has 2 regions with populations greater than this (SE Wales 1.4 million, SWW 700,000) • Recommended setting up 2 City regions , South East Wales (Cardiff) and Swansea Bay • Task and Finish Groups established November 2012 • Use Economic Strategy as evidence base for projects • Governance, Private Sector, HE/FE, participation critical • Project Development, quick wins, Next round EU funding
