  3. What is ACEnet • A Memorial led High Performance Computing (HPC) Consortium providing: • People • Applications • Communications • Technology • A partnership of Atlantic Canada’s Universities supporting world-class research.

  4. Vision • A network of connected and collaborating researchers • HPC resources critical for world class science • A magnet for HQP at all levels • A pervasive HPC culture • An essential element in growth and innovation in Atlantic Canada ACEnet

  5. Elements • 4 hosts: MUN, StFX, SMU, UNB • 7 member universities • 4 clusters and 2 SMP’s, visualization, Access Grid • ACEnet Institutes, training, workshops • Partnering with Industry/Private sector for long-term sustainability. ACEnet

  6. An opportunity to: punch through geographical barriers recruit, retain and support researchers at all levels instill a pervasive HPC culture transform research throughout Atlantic Canada ACEnet ACEnet

  7. Supporting Newfoundland’s Innovation Strategy • Provide 20% of resources for external research & commercialization • HPC Support Staff also available. • We offer tools directly supporting: • Visualization • Computation Fluid Dynamics – Marine/Offshore • Computational Chemistry – Pharma/Genomics

  8. Other Canadian Consortia • Sharcnet – Ontario - 11 Institutions • HPCVL – Ontario - 5 Institutions • CLUMEQ – Quebec – 4 Institutions • RQCHP – Quebec – 3 Institutions • Westgrid – BC & Alberta – 6 Institutions plus TRIUMF (National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics)
