It really depends... • The effective integration of technology depends on meeting the learning objectives of the lesson • The level of technology integration often mirrors the level of understanding we are aiming for (Blooms Taxonomy of learning). • Access to resources, relationship of the teacher to the technology, assessment tools, time, in-class support, student relationship to technology, discipline issues, teacher pedagogy, etc...

  5. During Instruction Low level integration STUDENTS TEACHER Powerpoint with images, video, sound, effective use of transitions Collaborative note-taking software IM’ing? Googler / post links to classroom website Podcast the lecture Using multimedia as an instructional tool

During Instruction High level integration STUDENTS TEACHER Facilitating a digital movie or narrated slideshow related to learning objectives Creating multimedia content linked to learning objectives Showcasing, sharing, creating a record of their learning Building a flickr library Using image manipulation software to radically alter existing portraits to another theme Applying knowledge of content to create novel products “Guide from the side” vs “Sage on the stage”

After Instruction High level integration STUDENTS TEACHER Facilitate online discussion - answer online questions - connect with “community of practice” Extend and enhance learning after class; clarify complex ideas. Continue learning Critiquing, self-reflection, peer review and peer assessment Linking / posting different multimedia projects

  11. Discuss the underlying educational principles that might influence your design plan for the instructional materials and/or activities. • Education drives technology • Learning objectives define instructional methodology • A different way of guiding the student towards knowledge

  12. How you would present your ideas to the teacher? • Face to face • Small group meetings • Peer instruction • Every few weeks a departmental “what’s new with technology meeting” Navigate and negotiate through fear
