  1. The Kapsch Group is a popular international Information Technology and Telecommunications Company that produces and supplies end-to-end telecommunications solutions. And, Advantech is a leading provider of trusted and innovative products and solutions for hardware, software, integration, embedded systems, automation products, and much more. With both these renowned names, imagine how it would be if they partnered with each other to bring forward a new innovative product? Yes, Kapsch CarrierCom has chosen Advantech’s Intel-powered white box servers for universal customer premises equipment (CPE) to replace dedicated branch office networking systems. Alltronix is the Advantech distributor in Pune where you can get all such innovative solutions from Advantech including embedded computers, industrial rack computers, fieldbus I/O systems, and SCADA. Network functions virtualization, or NFV in short, has come to a point where majority of network functions can be hosted on Intel architecture based servers. The multiple dedicated customer edge equipment required for local and wide area networking can be replaced with a single virtualized system hosting an NFV infrastructure, network orchestration, and virtual network functions. This has led to the wide usage of virtualized universal CPE networking systems that can deliver branch office networking functions with the capacity of additional virtual network functions that help to deploy customized value- added services. This universal CPE system is a converged customer network edge platform

  2. that utilizes a virtualized networking infrastructure and virtual network functions from multiple vendors to handle the most common networking functions like routing, switching, quality of service, access control, load balancing, performance monitoring, security, and network address translation. Advantech offers a wide range of universal CPE hardware platforms to meet the requirements of all kinds of big and small branch offices. For example, FWA-1010VC and FWA-1012VC are tabletop CPEs that can handle small and medium offices. And, FWA-2012 and FWA-2320 are rack-mounted versions designed for larger enterprises. Each of these systems supports flexible RAM capacities with ECC and SSD that ensure reliability. Also, they integrate gigabit Ethernet and 10 GbE ports with both copper and optical SFP connections. Kapsch CarrierCom designed its uCPE solution for its CommSP customers. Its customer facing requirements include support for standard networking functions, flexible SLAs, advanced networking optimizations, handling of regulatory elements, and minimization of customer premises footprint. These CPEs must be based on Intel CPUs to ensure widest compatibility with third party virtual network functions. Kapsch CarrierCom and Advantech spent considerable time validating this architecture to ensure that the outcomes delivered functionality, scalability, and maintainability. The system was validated in three steps. 1. OVP functionality – OneAccess OVP is set up on the universal CPE to exercise the functions of embedded network functions, command line configuration, virtual machine creation, and out of band management. 2. Orchestration – Cloudify is used to set up SD-WAN connectivity on each of the CPEs by deploying VCE on the universal CPE’s OVP, registering a new virtual network edge, stipulating the universal CPE, and activating the virtual network edge VNF. 3. SD-WAN functionality – VeloCloud is used to establish an SD-WAN by connecting the VCE to the VCO hosted in the public cloud, setting up SD-WAN overlay between two VCEs on two different CPEs, and validating the universal CPE’s availability and service continuity during failure.
