  3. During the last thirty years, the province of Benevento has seen to develop the agriculture in a form fast and substantial, with a significant contraction of the traditional systems of production and a marked differentiation of productive activities. The competition pushed towards the specialization and the technological development, particularly in the area of higher agricultural productivity. Particularly relevant has been the development of viticulture and, subsequently, of the enological industry and wine market. Actually, with its 10500 ha (128 q/ha) of vineyard, the province of Benevento is the most import viticultural area of the Campania region, and one of the most important of Italy. Relevant and of high quality are also the production of cereal crops, in the internal areas, as well as those of olive oil and zootechnical (particularly bovine and ovine).

  4. The development of agricultural sector increased the demand of technical-scientific knowledge. Relevant attention has been paid to the statistics, mainly as an important decision support tool. Such a demand have found great approval by the University of Sannio and, more generally, by many research Institute involved in scientific activities pertaining the agriculture, agro-industry and statistics. The scientific interests of the University of Sannio (Benevento)and other research Institutes (especially the Institute for Mediterranean Agriculture and Forest Systems of the Italian National Research Council) toward the problems of agro-industry and statistics stimulated the international cooperation lay the basis for the organization of the 11th AgroStat Congress in Benevento.

  5. The University of Sannio (Italian: “Università degli Studi del Sannio”, UNISANNIO) is located in Benevento, southern Italy. It was founded in 1998 and is organized in 4 Faculties (Economic and Business Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Sciences). This young University, since its birth, has considered internationalization as one of its most qualifying points and feeds, in a significant way, the exchanges and the diffusion of the applied research to the territory. Students who choose our University can deepen their studies in the fields of Law, Statistics, Environment, Geology, Biotechnologies, Civil, Computer, Energy and Telecommunication Engineering, Economics and Business Organization.

  6. The Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences (SEA), which aspires at being the site of the 11th AgroStat Congress, was born in July 2002 due to a reorganizational process of the University of Sannio. The new Faculty originated from the need to implement an autonomous, extensive, formative and cultural project, within a single structure, with coherence and critical attitude. The congress will be specifically organized by the Department of Analysis of the Economic and Social Systems (DASES), to which all the teachers and researchers of this Faculty refer for the scientific research. 11th AgroStat 2010 - Organizing Committee Chairmen: Pietro Amenta (University of Sannio)Luigi D’Ambra (University “Federico II” of Naples)

  7. Benevento, the provincial capital of Samnium (Sannio), is a very important city for the Campania region for its history and cultural patrimony. Samnium is a green, mountainous area, whore history has been developing for about 30 centuries with very important events, such as the defeat of the Romans by the Samnites (321 B.C.), the victory of Rome over Pyrrus (275 B.C.) and the battle between Charles of Anjou and Manfred (1266). Benevento, the provincial capital of Samnium, dates from the 4th century B.C. when it was known as Maloenton, a name turned into Beneventum with the Roman colony which marked the beginning of its greatest splendor with the Appian Way and the Trajan Way. There are many archeological records, starting from the Trajan’s Arch (or Golden Door), erected in 114 A.D., 15.45 m high and with 8.60 m span, and the Roman Theatre, built by Adriano and restored by Commodusin the late 2nd century A.D..

  8. The typical foods of Benevento area include: vegetable soups, hand-made pasta, sausages, hams, cheese and prized wines of controlled origin. However most of the products that enrich the gastronomy of this area can be related to an “artistic and qualitative craftsmanship”: from “torrone” to the vast range of tinned foods.

  9. Throughout Samnium there are many events and important folkloric meetings. In addition to the Feast of “Madonna delle Grazie”, many fairs take also place in Benevento as well as surviving rites and myths of pagan inspiration, in particular those related to the Legend of Witches that, according to the tradition, is indissolubly linked with Benevento.

  10. Caserta (CE) Near Benevento ... at 45 km The Palace of Caserta, in ItalianReggia di Caserta, is a former royal residence in Caserta, constructed for the Bourbon kings of Naples. It was the largest palace and probably the largest building erected in Europe in the eighteenth century. In 1996, the Palace of Caserta was listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the grounds that it was "the swan song of the spectacular art of the Baroque, from which it adopted all the features needed to create the illusions of multidirectional space"

  11. How to reach Benevento Benevento is located on the main routes connecting the North with the South of Italy. Therefore, it is well linked to all major resort, by both railways (i.e. from Rome and Naples) and motorways. Benevento can be also reached by bus from Naples and Rome. There is no airport in Benevento. The nearest airport is in Naples: the Capodichino Airport, far away about 80 km from Benevento. Capodichino Airport is well linked (by bus or taxi) to the “Napoli Centrale”Railway Station. From the latter, it is possible to reach Benevento by train in about 01:30 with change in Caserta. A free bus link for the participants between the airport in Capodichino (Naples) and the Hotels in Benevento at the first and last day of AgroStat 2010 will be foreseen. An alternative possibility is to arrive to Rome by airplane (Fiumicino Airport)and then move to Benevento by train (about 2.30 hours time) Eurostar Rome-Lecce or Rome-Bari.
