In2014westartedasocialprojectbysupportingthe204childrenthatliveinthetownofWakatinku,atthebaseoftheSacredValley’slargestpeak,Ausangate(elev.21,000ft/6400mtrs).Someofthemcomefromasmuchas2hoursawaytoattendschoolandweprovidedthemwithschoolsuppliesandsomebasichygieneitemssuchassoapandtoothbrushes.Wepromisedtocomebackandhelpthemwithatreeplantingproject.Ayearagowehelpedthevillagersplantseedsfromtheonlysurvivingtreewhichisindigenoustothisarea,theQueuñatree(Polylepis,alsoknownastheAndeanOak). AroundChristmastime,wereturnedtohelpthemplantthese3000seedlingsinthesurroundingfarmlandsofthevillageandschool.Forty-fivevillagershelpedtheAlpacaExpeditionsteamputthemintheground.Within2-3years,thesetreeswillbegintocontributetothisareawiththeirnaturalbenefits. EveryFebruary,whentheIncaTrailisclosedandthecityisquiet,wespendtimeonthemountainshelpingtocleanthetrailswetrekeveryday.WewalkedslowlyandcleanedthetrailtoHuchuyQosqoandwefeltluckytobechosentohelpcleantheIncaTrailbytheNationalPark(SERNAP)inPeru.WewillmakesuretheInkaTrailhasneverbeencleaner.
