Site License Advisory Team August 31, 2011 meeting
Agenda • Quick Updates • Data Loss Prevention RFP • Secunia Roll-Out • SAS Renewal • MATLAB Renewal • Adobe Enterprise License Agreement • Apple Volume Purchase Plan • LANDesk and WSUS training opportunities • University Compliance Review
Quick Updates • MacOS X 10.7 is available on eStores for bulk purchase • CoreFTP discontinued on OSU SLS last month • ASC and Engineering have procured a site license for LabView • D2L agreement renewed for next year • Examining a license for Aspen Plus • New OCIO site (and new SLS directory!) go live later today
OCIO DLP RFP • RFP released 8/19 • Currently open for vendor response • Some vendors we know have viewed the RFP: • McAfee • Symantec • Identity Finder • Oracle • RSA • Dynamic Vault • AccessData • BeyondTrust
Secunia Roll-Out • Secuina CSI 5.0 arrives tomorrow • Pilot group (Engineering, Business, OCIO) will test the newest version • Once testing is done, we will announce a full rollout • Security Liaisons currently identified as account recipients • Ability to create sub-accounts will be provided on request, depending on roll-out needs for departments
SAS Renewal • SAS has offered new contract terms for Teaching and Research licenses • Unlimited installations • Unlimited student home use • Unlimited server use • Linux desktop option added • Removal of SAS Genetics • Cost change: • Current Solution: $53,612 • New Solution: FY12: $59,033; FY13: $66,533 • This will result in cost changes in FY12 and FY13 ($10-12 total increase) • New addendum to agreement • SAS Admin use remains unchanged • SAS 9.3 prepped for duplication
MATLAB Renewal • MATLAB renewal accomplished August 15 • 15 days prior to expiration • Last year, codes became available Sept. 29, 2 days before hard fail • New codes available now from the IT Service Desk.
AutoDesk Renewal • AutoDesk renewal has been a challenge • Renewal in place, codes available for 2010, 2011, 2012 • Old codes failing within days, warnings currently displayed • Two sets of 2011 media available (currently checked out) • 2012 media on order and presumably on its way • Renewal price $91/copy for AutoCAD, $91/copy for 3ds Max
Adobe ELA/TSL/CLP • Purchasing and Site Licensing renewed discussions with Adobe regarding the ELA and TSL • ELA – Enterprise License Agreement: For discount licensing of Creative Suites, based on FTE • TSL – Term Site License: For discount licensing of Acrobat Professional only, based on FTE • CLP – Cumulative Licensing Program: OSU’s current Adobe agreement, allows purchase of all products with optional maintenance. Each product is one-off. Ends 4/6/12 • Licenses are subscription-based (you can’t take them with you) on ELA and TSL. CLP licenses are perpetual. • Adobe spend over the last 4 years: $2,046,336 • Trend 1: increased spending of $200,000/year in that time • Trend 2: Student spend likely to eclipse Fac/Staff spend next year
Adobe ELA/TSL/CLP • Adobe CLP Important Fact: • If you don’t have maintenance, you can purchase it for all latest-versions at any time on the CLP, and can continue it at the next CLP. • Example: You have Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium, and know CS6 comes out in May 2012, but did not purchase maintenance. You can purchase maintenance during the last month of our CLP contract and then renew it for the next CLP term (2 years) and obtain the new version. • If you are not under maintenance when a new version comes out, you must purchase a new product in order to “upgrade.”
Apple Volume Purchasing Plan • The VPP is designed for the purchase of bulk apps (20 or more) • VPP’s involve the purchase of “really big iTunes gift cards” (denominations of $500, $1,000, or $5,000) • Allows the creation of non-credit-card accounts • Accounts are hierarchical and the top-level account can assign out cash to subaccounts. • Allows avoidance of the T’s & C’s • Site Licensing is working with Purchasing to determine if OCIO SLS is the proper administrator for this plan • OSU Purchasing has indicated that the iTunes terms are not “click-thru-able” for University staff; SLS is working on clarification of this information
LANDesk & WSUS Training • SECWOGs in September and October will focus on these products: • Sept. 1, Baker Systems 120, 3:30-5PM: LANDesk: • Support engineers from LANDesk will take the floor to present an overview of the LANDesk suite of products as well as specific details regarding security-related capabilities of those tools. • This is not a sales presentation, the SECWOG format is meant to increase the understanding of the community around the adoption and use of security tools and practices and vendors are invited to assist in increasing the knowledge surrounding products from time to time. • Oct. 6, Baker Systems 120 (tent) 3:30-5PM: WSUS setup and support topics (agenda still forming)
University Compliance Review • Available tools through SLS: • Software Life-Cycle Management Guide: • http://oit.osu.edu/site_license/life-cycle-mgmt-guide.pdf • Queries regarding license counts: • Contact software@osu.edu or call 8-HELP • Compliance tools such as: • LANDesk • Secunia • SCCM
