  3. The DAAD? A Brief Description • - The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the largest funding organisation in the world supporting the international exchange of students and scholars. • - The DAAD has 14 regional offices, 50 information centres and 440 DAAD-lecturers (3 in Croatia) • - The DAAD runs over 250 programmes, through which it funds more than 67,000 German and foreign scholars worldwide per annum. • •

  5. The DAAD-budget is mainly financed by the German Federal Foreign Office, but also from the European Union and a number of enterprises, organisations and foreign governments.

  6. Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists • Target: research projects at a German higher education institution (Ph.d.) • Gaining a doctorate in your home country or in Germany or without aiming for a degree • Duration: 1 month (research) – 3 years (Ph.d.)

  7. Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines • Target: Complete a MA-degree • Duration: 10 – 24 months • Requirements: first degree (e.g. BA) • Application for the MA parallel to the DAAD-application, priority list • DAAD reimburses university fees up to a maximum amount of 500€ per Sem.

DAAD/OSI – Programm • Target: Complete a chosen MA- programme (max. 2 years)or a Doctorate (3 years) • Focus: improve teaching and research in the humanities, create networks between academics • Requirements: BA/ Master in humanities, sociology and social sciences disciplines: political science, sociology, international relations, law, economics, public administration, education management, public health and philosophy (plus exceptions)

DAAD/OSI – Programm • Master e.g. at the following Universities: • Uni Bremen: Europäisches und Internationales Recht • HU Berlin: Economics and Management Science • Uni Marburg: International Development Studies • Uni Regensburg: Ost-West-Studien • Uni Bamberg: European Economic Studies • FU Berlin: Geschichtswissenschaft mit dem Profilbereich Geschichte des 19./20. Jahrhunderts • Jacobs University Bremen: Modern Global History • Uni Halle/Wittenberg: Gesundheits- und Pflegewissenschaft

University Summer Course Grants for Advanced Students • Target: support students who attend German language and area studies courses offered by German universities • Duration: 3-4 weeks • No application in the first and the final academic year • German language skills, in order to be able to follow conferences and workshops

  11. Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists • Target: Carry out a research project at a German university or a research institute • Duration: 1-3 Monate (Between May and January of the following year • Doctorate/ Ph.d. working in higher education institutions

Scholarships for Artists and Architects: Study Scholarships • Applications from the fields of architecture, fine arts, music, drama, direction, dance and choreography (target: MA-degree) • Special application conditions (see website!) • Application has to be sent directly to the DAAD head office (Ref. 324)!

Questions? • German Language Skills are generally required (e.g. DAAD- Language certificate) • When English is spoken at the host institute, English skills may be accepted (in any case: German language certficate, eventually the scholarship holder could be sent to Summer language course) • Language certficates can be received by the DAAD-lecturers in Croatia. Also DSD II, TestDaF... are accepted • No age-limit (theoretically)

Application papers for MA and Phd.-programmes: • CV, Research plan or statement of reason for the studies, one/two recommendation lettersfrom local professors or academic supervisors, certified copies of the school leaving certificate, of the Bachelor's or Magister (Master's) degree (Diplom) or, in the case of students in their fourth academic year, a certified copy of their study record book and a language certificate. University application (MA)/ confirmation of academic supervision (Ph.d.); Information about wished MAs; in the case of Study scholarships: formular “Profil Studiengang”
