  3. Sound Quality of this Webinar: • What if I hear static, beeping or a clicking sound? • Electronic devices, such as Blackberries, can affect the sound quality of microphones and speakers. To avoid this, keep any electronic handheld devices away from your microphone and speakers during your meeting. • What if I experience an echo, feedback or background noise? • A USB headset is recommended (see VoIP Audio Device Recommendations). • If you suspect an echo is coming from an attendee, see who is speaking by looking at the bottom of the Audio Pane. Then mute that attendee or ask the attendee to lower his or her speaker volume. You can also click Mute All in the Audio Pane. • If you join your meeting via telephone make sure the audio setting on your Control Panel is not set to Use Mic & Speakers. • Built-in or external speakers can cause echo. We recommend reducing the speaker volume to a low level. • Laptops with built-in microphones can pick up noise and cause echo. Using a built-in microphone for your audio is not recommended. If you know how to turn off your laptop's built-in microphone, turn it off for your presentation. (Check your laptop's owner manual.) • Webcams with microphones can pick up additional noise and cause echo. Using a Webcam for your audio is not recommended. • A meeting is best presented from a quiet location. • If using a microphone, move the microphone closer to your voice and away from competing sounds (e.g. computer fans). • Avoid moving or touching the microphone during your presentation.

Tips for Successful Applications • Be professional but be yourself. • Allow your own voice to shine through in your narrative and video. • Take advantage of the opportunity to provide supplemental materials, including student work samples related to the important concept in your narrative and video.

Dimension Three: • Dimension Three: Effective use of student assessments to evaluate, monitor, and improve student learning. • The narrative for Dimension Three should be about three pages. • 3a. Describe how you assessed student learning and achievement for the topic discussed in Dimension One and shown on the video, and how you use what you learned from the assessment to improve your teaching.

  7. Dimension 3 – continued… • 3b. Discuss other specific ways that you routinely assess and guide student learning. You may include examples of formative or summative techniques, including student presentations, projects, quizzes, unit exams, or other methods. • 3c. Provide evidence of your teaching effectiveness as measured by student achievement on school, district or state assessments, or other external indicators of student learning or achievement.

Dimension 3-What you can do to get started… • Gather evidence – paper or electronic copies of assessment results (standardized tests, pre-assessments, assessment probe results, classroom tests/quizzes) • As you think about which of these you’ll mention in your narrative, think about including some as evidence in your supplemental pages.

  9. Dimension Four: • Dimension Four: Reflective practice and life-long learning to improve teaching and student learning. • The narrative for Dimension Four should be about two pages. • 4a. Discuss the more successful and less successful aspects of the instructional activities shown in the video and discussed in the narrative, and describe what you might do differently to improve student learning.

  10. Dimension 4Continued • 4b. Describe how reflection on your teaching practices helps you improve your classroom instruction. You may provide examples of lessons or activities you revised based on this reflection. • 4c. Using one or two of the professional development experiences cited in your résumé, describe how your participation in these activities has improved your teaching and enhanced student learning.

  11. Let’s Discuss these practices from Dimension 4: • Reflective Practice – Be honest about the improvements needed in your teaching. The video will show a snapshot of your teaching, but it’s up to you to add some interpretation and context for reviewers. • Resume – What activities have improved your teaching or enhanced student learning? (If you need to fit in some professional learning quickly, consider the NCTM and NSTA online opportunities. Some are at your on pace and can be started at any time.) • The application says “A résumé (maximum 2 pages) is required that outlines the applicant’s education, employment history, and participation in professional development activities.”
