  1. Monday, November 28th • 10 minutes to study for Unit 5 Vocabulary Quiz • Take Unit 5 Vocabulary Quiz (@ noon) • After quiz, respond to Do Now Prompt • Introduction to SGGK • Read SGGK, answer two questions • Respond to video question *** All written work will be collected

DO NOW – Grab a textbook from the back of the room and then respond to the following on a sheet of paper: • After we read Sir Gawain and the Green Knight today, we will discover that Sir Gawain, though honorable, fails in his quest when he chooses to give himself an unfair advantage in his meeting with the Green Knight. In the academic world, students have access to many tools, one of them being Sparknotes. What do you believe is the role of Sparknotes? Is it cheating to use them? In what capacity is using educational notes and guides acceptable. • Is there a temptation to take the easy way out? • Does this justify why teachers make you feel guilty or tell you not to use them?

The Structure of the Poem • Three Gawains Represent the Three Fitts (The 3 Steps towards Heaven): • How does Gawain show that he is a courteous and brave brother of Round Table? • In the 2nd part of the story, Gawain is now a guest at another man’s castle. How does he try to uphold his values? • In the last part of the story, Gawain is confronted by the Green Knight. How do we know that he is flawed and represents the everyday man?

Consider the situation, the ethical dilemma/temptations, and the resolution. Just like in SGGK, is this a fair test to give to someone, knowing that you are deceiving them to prove a point/teach a lesson? • What would you do in this situation? Why? When you do something dishonest, do you think of the consequences or feel guilty, or do you only consider these things if you get caught?
