  1. God Rescues the Righteous Genesis 6:9-8:22

  2. “These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. ” (Genesis 6:9, ESV)

  3. Part 1 – Genesis 6 “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. ” (Genesis 6:11–12, ESV)

  4. Part 1 – Genesis 6 “And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. ” (Genesis 6:13–14, ESV)

  5. Part 1 – Genesis 6 “Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks. For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die. ” (Genesis 6:16–17, ESV)

  6. Notice it was Noah who was righteous… but his family who benefits.

  7. Don’t despair if you are the only one who believes in your family, or among your friends. Your faith and your walk matters. Your faith and your walk is not without impact and does not go unnoticed by God.

  8. Part 1 – Genesis 6 “But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. ” (Genesis 6:18, ESV)

  9. Part 1 – Genesis 6 “Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. ” (Genesis 6:22, ESV)

  10. God will rescue the righteous from the judgment—but the righteous must walk in faith and obedience.

  11. “God will judge the wicked with severe and catastrophic judgment in order to start life over with a worshiping community”

  12. Part 2 – Genesis 7 The Lord destroys the wicked and their world but saves a remnant through the obedience of one man.

  13. Part 3 – Genesis 7 “Then the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. ” (Genesis 7:1, ESV)

  14. Part 3 – Genesis 7 “And Noah did all that the LORD had commanded him. ” (Genesis 7:5, ESV) “And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the LORD shut him in. ” (Genesis 7:16, ESV)

  15. The account of the flood reminds us of God undisputed power and freedom over creation

  16. It show us God as He is—not how we have made him out to be—he is a God of love because he has no tolerance for evil. A God who has any tolerance for evil, is not a God of love—in fact any tolerance for evil would make God evil himself—which He is not.

  17. The verdict of the account of the great flood is clear: no part of a sinful world can survive. No part of a sinful world can remain.

  18. Part 3 – Genesis 8 God restores his creation after the judgment is complete.

  19. “But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. ” (Genesis 8:1, ESV)

  20. “The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained, and the waters receded from the earth continually. At the end of 150 days the waters had abated, and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. ” (Genesis 8:2–4, ESV)

  21. “In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried out. Then God said to Noah, “Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. ” (Genesis 8:14–16, ESV)

  22. “Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. ” (Genesis 8:17–18, ESV)

  23. “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. ” (Genesis 8:20, ESV)

  24. God seeks worshipers!

  25. Worshipers who worship in spirit and truth the Creator of heaven and earthand the One who destroys wickedness

  26. Worship is the response to the promise of redemption.

  27. Part 3 – Genesis Chapter 8 “And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth.” (Genesis 8:21, ESV)

  28. Part 3 – Genesis Chapter 8 “Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” ” (Genesis 8:22, ESV)

  29. When God redeems you from the judgment of evil, those who walk with God respond by giving their best in worship.

  30. Genesis 6-8 “God will judge the wicked with severe and catastrophic judgment in order to start life over with a worshiping community” – Alan Ross “Creation and Blessing” p 198
