DPAS II • Delaware Performance Appraisal System (teachers, administrators, specialists) • Based on Charlotte Danielson’s Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching • Utilized since 2008 • Comprised of five components planning and preparation classroom environment Instruction professional responsibilities student improvement

  6. Part I: School-wide Assessment Measure (DCAS-based using AYP scores) Part II A: Cohort Assessment Measure (DCAS-based using instructional scores) Part II B: Five Statewide Performance Indicators Part III: Specialist Specific Assessment Measure (non-DCAS) Fifteen Performance Indicators

Component V- internal assessment measures • 350 Delaware educators/5 cohorts/5 days • Cohort 1- ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies & World Languages • Cohort 2- The Arts, Health &Physical Education, English Language Learners • Cohort 3- Career and Technical Education Developed pre/post tests in each content area to measure student growth. • Cohort 4- Non-graded- Librarians, Counselors, Special Education, Nurses- Developed performance indicators • Cohort 5- Non-Tested Version II May 2012

  8. The Process VPA Statement of Purpose: Assessment in the Visual and Performing Arts is to demonstrate growth in creating and performing through the development and application of artistic literacy.

  9. The Process • Created test specifications and blueprints • Harvested test items from SCASS arts • Created performance task & rubrics • Built operational forms, administration guidelines and score sheets • Coded 350 test items • Reviewed & refined following feedback

  10. The Products • Pre and Post tests for Dance, Music, Theatre and Visual Art • Grades K, 3, 5, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced (Art and Music) • Novice, Intermediate & Advanced (Dance and Theatre) • All other grades will be built summer 2012 • Hybrid- Selected response & constructed response

  11. Lessons Learned • Keep it simple! • Assess the essence of the discipline • What is measured will be treasured • Ensure vertical articulation & developmental appropriateness • Standards must be crisp and clear • Psychometrics can be for dummies! • This is only the beginning!
