  5. Types of readings Intensive Extensive Short/ Inside the class Long texts/ Reading in quantity Develop good reading habits High degree of understanding Build up knowledge of voc & structures Become independent reader Encourage the liking of reading

Approaches of Reading Top- down approach Processing of a text begins in the mind of the readers Readers identify letters and words only to confirm their assumptions about the meaning of the text It emphasizes what the reader brings to the text Reading is driven by meaning, and proceeds from whole to part. Bottom-up approach The text/ code is the basic element A single-direction, part-to-whole processing of a text Reading is driven by a process that results in meaning The meaning of the text is expected to come naturally as the code is broken based on the reader's prior knowledge
