  2. What we knew before The children's wish foundation, began in 1994 by a volunteer named Laura Cole There are only 5 paid staff members who work with the children's wish foundation. All the others are volunteers. This foundations grants wishes to children between the ages of 3-17. The children who are granted these wishes are kids who are diagnosed with life threatening illnesses, to create a memorable experience. The children's wish foundations name originated from the make-a-wish foundation in Arizona. Manitoba and Nunavut have been granting wishes since 1986. This organization is backed up by a team of dedicated volunteers. They grant nearly 3 wishes every day.

The illness must be verified by the child's treating physician. • Q: How are children referred for wishes? • A: Most referrals come from parents, family, family members or doctors nurses, and social workers. Referrals can also come from child life specialists, friends, the potential wish child, teachers, and other wish families. • Q: What are the most popular request? • A: The most popular wishes included traveling, entertainment centers, computer systems, and meeting celebrities. • Q: How long is your waiting list? • A: They have no waiting list they are ready to grant a wish as soon as a medial approval is received. Most wishes take a few weeks to arrange. However, in an emergency situation they can fulfill a wish in a matter of days.
