  2. Formal information • Founded on June 6, 1996 on the basis of the Control Systems Division of the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of NASU • Subordinated to the Division of Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and to the State Space Agency of Ukraine (formerly NSAU) • Consists of 5 departments, 3 laboratories and 2 regional centers in L’viv and Kharkiv • ~250 employees (~80 in Kyiv, ~150 in L’viv)

Research areas • Theory of automatic control of complex dynamic aerospace systems • Solar-terrestrial physics and space weather • Space information systems and technologies • Earth observation and remote sensing • Microgravity science, crystal growth in space • Development and production of advanced instrumentation, incl. satellite hardware • Astrophysics and cosmology

  4. Major projects • Variant, Potential, Ionosat – Ukrainian space experiments on ionospheric waves • Interball, Coronas, Environment, Chibis, Resonance – Russian-Ukrainian space experiments on SWx • AFFECTS, POPDAT – FP7 projects on SWx • Estimation of agricultural crops on the basis of satellite and in-situ data – JRC project • Flood monitoring systems for Ukraine, China, Australia and Namibia • UN-SPIDER regional office and warning center
