  2. MAIN At Engage Hunts, we move you way beyond the traditional and simplistic, "object-gathering" scavenger hunt model which most of us are familiar with. Our cutting-edge, "thinking-hunter's" treasure hunts may feature cryptic clues, problem solving and team development, with an emphasis on • leveraging your team's specific skills and knowledge • creating a process that will help breaking down communication silos through cross-team collaboration. During a typical Engage treasure hunt, you may be exposed to a variety of questions from puzzles to codes and ciphers, and even physical challenges perhaps like those you've see in movies like in National Treasure. Put on your lateral thinking cap on while you have fun time managing, bonding with your group as a team via a collective experience while enjoying an exploration process together to many popular places in Malaysia.

  3. ABOUT US • Engage Hunts was officially established in early 2007, initially comprising of the husband and wife team of Richard Si and May Teoh. • They started off as avid regular treasure hunters in 2001, participating in all kinds of treasure hunts and amazing races in and outside of Malaysia as frequently as on a weekly basis. • Gaining experience and credibility throughout the years as regular, then ‘master hunters’, after frequently winning top quartile positions in such events, driven with their flair and passion, they began organising and clerking (setting) treasure hunts themselves with all the experience they have under their belt.

  4. ABOUT US • In early 2007 Richard, an IT professional with 18 years in the field established Engage Hunts to design and clerk events on a full time basis. • Richard and May are owners and moderators of Malaysia’s first (and currently only) Treasure Hunting Forum called Hunters-Inc. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hunters-inc) • Richard also manages the Treasure Hunting Malaysia web-blog (http://treasurehuntingmalaysia.blogspot.com)

And you have a blast doing it! • We remember you and award you with loyalty discounts for repeat engagement with us. That’s recognition to you as our preferred clientele, helping you save, while still engaged in quality fun. • Last but not least, a reiteration of the point that “there’s no beating an hunt setter that has been there, cracked this and done that”hence Why Not Us.

  11. MORE INFO/FAQ This list cannot possibly be a “catch all – answer everything” list due to the limitations of space, but some common Frequently Asked Questions are listed at the following pages which are real-live-practical questions posed by organisations/groups with intentions of organising a treasure hunt event. Feel free contact us anytime for a customised proposal or anything regarding treasure hunts.Happy Hunting! phone:+60123106022email: hunting@engageus.infohttp://treasurehunting.engageus.info

  12. MORE INFO/FAQ Q. What is the time frame required to design and plan a ‘normal’ treasure hunt. • Every of our treasure hunt events we engage in are ‘special’ for us and should be especially for you. For a motor hunt that uses public roads, it takes at least one month to obtain written approval from MKJR. To design and plan a hunt usually takes 2-3 weeks of several ‘recky’ sessions, customising the event for you in terms of clues, group/company themes, specific physical challenges (if any) and many other factors including Safety & Security aspects. Q. Must treasure hunt participants be guided via ‘rally tulip’ (the ones fairly similar used in Rally car sport races). Because a lot of ‘new’ hunters are not too familiar with reading it. A. No, navigation via tulips in Malaysia, is the “de-facto” method for getting from one place to another. Other methods that may also be used are plain description of where to go next, using with a regular street map or even for the tech-savvy, GPS coordinates.

  13. MORE INFO/FAQ Q. What’s the normal charges for participation entry fees? • Normal for some may be not so normal for others. However, sharing our experience as hunters ourselves, we have noted that participation fees for a ‘day hunt’ may be anything from RM25.00 (walk hunt) to RM100.00 (motor hunt). RM150.00 to RM250.00 for an ‘overnight/outstation’ hunt. Some are free, meaning the participants pay nothing and the organising committee bears all costs. (common for internal company/team building events) Q. What or who are these so called ‘professional treasure hunters’ we hear about? • There are no professional treasure hunters, at least not that we know of that solely depend on treasure hunt events to make a living. However, there are very regular participants or teams that have 20+ years of hunting experience up their belts. They are also popularly called ‘master’ or even grand-master hunters, but no more ‘special’ than just about anyone else who would equally dedicate such time, effort and money in hunts to equally attain such in stature.

  14. MORE INFO/FAQ Q. How many treasure hunt event managers or setter are out there? And how do we choose the Best? • This question is akin to asking how many mobile phone makers there are out there (out where?) and how does one choose ‘the Best”. Our response to this question is rather simplistic. There are many and “Best “for some may be “Ok-la“ for others, and Best yesterday may be Better today and the Best today may not even be there tomorrow . Like in any competitive service provider arena, diversity and inclusiveness is usually a winning recipe for everyone. Q. How much does it cost to engage a hunt setter for a day hunt and how much for an overnight/outstation hunt? • This question is also akin to asking different construction developers how much it cost to build a custom made house. The simplistic answer to this question is, different clerk-of-the-course charge differently for their intellectual services. It may be from FREE (as sometimes rendered to charitable groups) to Thousands of Ringgit per event or per day. But it’s more common than not, in the Thousands as end-to-end management of an event is incredibly hectic and tedious.

  15. MORE INFO/FAQ Q. What are your overall advice if we want to plan a treasure hunt? • Get a working committee together. • Know your budget. Be aware of any hidden costs • Decide the start venue and the end venue and all in between if any • Decide if you want to open the event to the public or if it is an closed/internal only one. • Decide on more attractive prizes if you wish to open the event to the public. • Create advertisement and publicity for the event. The more the merrier since treasure hunts are mass interaction events. • Allocate at least 1 month of planning. If it is a motor hunt, it takes 1 month to apply for MKJR approval anyway. Otherwise, 2-3 weeks may suffice. • Plan amazing race/hunt events carefully taking special account to all Safety, Security, Health and Environmental aspects • Work closely with your appointed hunt setter company (Clerk-of-the-course or COC). Openness and Honesty is always the best policy! • Let your participants play hard but remember the event’s objectives and remember that it is all in the name of human collaborative fun. Don’t make enemies unnecessarily! Please feel free to call for a non-committal chat on anything and everything treasure hunting. Happy Hunting.
