  1. British Literature December 15, 2008 Ms. Cares

  2. Agenda: • If you did not already do so, turn in the sheets on which your unpacked last month’s interim reading assessment. • What trends did you notice when you went through the missed questions? We will discuss this and overall trends for each class. • “Three Little Pigs” – You will be the question writer and test giver.

  3. Discussion of the Reading Assessment: On a separate sheet of paper, write down quick responses to the following (5 minutes): Looking back at your test, what did you notice about it? Where did you have trouble? What can we do to ameliorate (fix) these problems? What do you need from me/from this class to improve your reading scores?

  4. My thoughts on the test: Studies have shown that students who recognize question types perform better on standardized reading tests (NLNS). Therefore, we will work to make sure that you recognize various question types at different levels. You must also get in the habit of reading various types of texts on a regular basis, and we will work to ensure that this is done, too. www.nytimes.com

  5. Three Little Pigs: It’s time to put your questioning expertise to use! You are going to write ACT-style questions on the “Three Little Pigs.” Follow these steps: 1. Silently and with pen in hand, read the “Three Little Pigs.” Annotate the text as you go. 2. Working with a partner, write 5 ACT-style questions that reflect the types of questions that you need to review. In other words, if you did not do well on Author’s Intent and Meaning of Words questions, write 2-3 for each question type.
