FRIDAY, August 10th (1) Turn in you syllabus to the blue drawer, if you did not turn it in (2) Place EVERYTHING but your INB beneath your seat with your behavior card on top (3) Remove the orange paper from the work folder (4) DO NOT WRITE ON THE ARTICLE (5) Read the article and think about 2 safety rules that were not observed

  2. JOURNAL FORMAT • Always copy the question as it is written and underline it. • Identify each journal as follows: JRL #8/9 (date) • DO NOT SKIP LINES between question and answer • Skip one line between journals • You must fit 5 on a page ONLY

  3. OPEN INB to p. 129 • WRITE the title “JOURNALS” • JRL #8/9 • Copy two safety rules from p. 7 that were not observed by the student in the article.

  4. Friday, August 9th • Title p. 8: “FOUR CORNERS” • Divide this page into 4 squares • FACTS / PHRASES • WORDS to KNOW • QL vs QT • SUMMARY

(1) Read the article titled “Observations vs Inferences” • (2) Use a red pen to circle science terms and a highlighter to underline words or phrases that give you a clue to their meaning. • (3) Copy the terms that you circled in the “Words to Know” Box • (4) Copy a phrase(s) that you highlighted in the second box that gives you a clue to the term’s meaning

The date 1722 is printed on one side of the coin. • 5. The coin was made in 1722. • 6. The face on the coin is a representation of the nation's president.

  9. Observation vs Inference • On the next slide, state whether the statement is an observation or an inference.

Observations vs Inferences • (1) How many cars were in the intersection? • (2) Across the street, are there any parked cars on the side? • (3) Can you describe at least one of the cars driving through the intersection? • (4) Are there any other potential witnesses? • (5) If yes, What was this witness doing? Where was he? •What was the speed limit? • (6) Was there anyone parked in the first parking spot?
