Objective • At the end of this briefing you should understand: • BASIC eligibility requirements. • MAXIMUMbasic benefits. • “YELLOW RIBBON PROGRAM” • TRAINING available under Post 9/11 & Montgomery GI Bill. • COMPARISON of Montgomery GI Bill benefits and Post 9/11. • PERCENTAGE of maximum payable amounts for active duty and reservists. • *PROPOSED transferability rules. • *How to obtain additional information.

  3. Eligibility • You may be eligible if you: • Served at least 90aggregate days on active duty after September 10, 2001 • Still on active duty or were Honorably- • Discharged • Released from active duty and placed on the retired list or temporary disability retired list; or • Released from active duty and transferred to the Fleet Reserve or • Fleet Marine Corps Reserve, or • Released from active duty for further service in reserve component of the Armed Forces • Honorably discharged for a service connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001

Eligibility To qualify for the full benefit must be HONORABLY discharged and have: • Served at least 3 years of active duty after September 10, 2001 • Served at least 30 continuous days and were discharged due to a • service-connected disability • If , on August 1, 2009, you are eligible for: • Montgomery GI BILL (Chapter 30) • Montgomery GI BILL Selected Reserve or Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) and you qualify for Post 9/11 GI BILL • You may make an IRREVOCABLE ELECTION to receive the Post • 9/11 GI BILL

Eligibility continued • Those who enlisted under the student loan program • Officers who graduated from service academies or received ROTC • Scholarships • NOTE: Time spent satisfying the student loan repayment or • ROTC/Service active duty obligation WILL NOT count toward establishing eligibility. • IF you did not contributeto the Montgomery GI Bill, you may be • eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill if you meet service requirements.

  6. Basic Benefits • Tuition paid directly to school • Not to exceed cost of most expensive in-state undergraduate tuition at public institution of higher • Paid to you • Monthly housing allowance = to *E5 with dependents rate, in the same zip code as school if going to school ¾ or more • Yearly books and supplies stipend NOT to exceed $1000 per academic year • One-time payment of $500 paid to certain individuals relocating from highly rural areas • NOTE: Housing book, supplies stipend not paid if using while on active duty. Housing not pay if pursuing training at half time or less

  7. Basic Benefits • If the school you wish to attend has higher tuition and fees than the most expensive in-State tuition, your school may choose to participate in the "Yellow Ribbon" program.

BASIC TRANSFERABILITY RULES • To Transfer Education Benefits • Must have 6 years of service in the Armed Forces on date of election • Must agree to serve at least 4 additional years • Time served for ROTC Scholarship, Service Academy attendance, and SLRP count towards the 6 year transferability eligibility requirement • Must be on active duty or a member of the Selected Reserves at the • time of request to transfer unused benefits Transferability

ARMY’S PROPOSED TRANSFERABILITY RULES • Has at least 10 years of service in the Armed Forces (Active Duty and/or SELRES) on the date of election and either standard policy (Service or DoD) or statute preclude the Service member from committing to 4 additional years. Must commit to serve for the maximum amount of time allowed by such policy or statute. • Is or becomes retirement eligible during the period from 1 Aug 09 thru 1 Aug 13. • Eligible for retirement • On 1 Aug 09 • After 1 Aug 09 before 1 Aug 2010 • On or after1 Aug 2010 before 1 Aug 2011 • On or after 1 Aug 2011 before 1 Aug 2012 • Approved for retirement • after 1 Aug 09 before 1 Jul 2010 Transferability
