  2. Agenda • Review Key Terms and Ideas • Practice with a visual speech • Review homework • Quote Analysis Homework: Prep for EOY

  3. Central Argument and Analysis • What is a central argument? • What is the main idea that is trying to be proven? • What is the main point that the author is trying to get across? • What is the focus/thesis of the piece of literature, speech, film, etc.?

  4. Draw inferences from text using evidence • What is an inference? • An educated guess or assumption made about a character, story, or topic based on the information from the text • How do we use textual evidence? • Introduce: In the text, it states, “…..” • Cite: “……..” (Author’s Name Page Number). • Explain: This shows that….

  5. Analysis of Key Detail • Analyzing a quote means describing the deeper meaning of a specific quote, or detail • Example: Analyze this quote. What is the deeper meaning or the point to take away? “Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything - all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.” – Steve Jobs
