  3. Select a natural disaster from the list (only list 1-4) at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_disaster Select a Webquest (Webquest #2 or #3). Find a partner (no more than three in a group) or you can complete the entire project on your own. Use Expert Space to read the “Dive Deeper” section that pertains to your natural disaster topic. Take notes using the “notes” tool found in Expert Space. Directions and practice for note taking within the Xspace program was given first quarter. There is a video to watch in xspace if you have forgotten how. This is the same video we watched in class at that time. Remember to keep track of the sources used as you will need to include a works references slide with your resources. Use easybib.com or bibme.org MLA style to record your source information. An example of how to use these sources was given on Tuesday, January 10th. You need to have five different sources for your resources page (citations). ASK QUESTIONS if you need help. I cannot help you if I don’t know you need help. Project is due by the last school day of the month, January 31st. YOU MUST ALSO WORK FROM HOME! Remember to take notes everyday in class in order to improve your listening skills or participate often in class. Notes are due on Monday. Work in order of the process given on the web quest. 3rd hour on Tuesday 1/10

  4. My Access writing Select one of the four prompts listed on my access: Favorite Villain, Definition of a Hero, An Epic Hero, or Natural Disaster Read the prompts model essay that scored a “6” and the essay that scored a “3”. Using Ms Word complete step one in the writing process, “brainstorm”. Consider the following questions while brainstorming: What is the general subject of the essay? What will you discuss? Is there a controversy related to the subject of the essay? If so, what is it? What is your attitude or contention (argument) about the topic? What side do you take? What are the details you will discuss in your essay? Can these details be summarized by a single statement? Step two write a working thesis for your essay in one or two sentences that responds to the questions in step one and communicates your position on the controlling idea. Type a thesis for the prompt you chose using Ms Word. A thesis communicates the main point, theme, or argument of the essay. It directs the organization and content of the essay, determining which idea belongs in the essay and which do not. It is stated in the introduction of the essay to engage and inform the reader. You may try to use the thesis creator found at: http://johnmcgarvey.com/apworld/student/thesiscreator.html 3rd hour on Wednesday 1/11
