5 Safety Tips While Using Any Crane There are many misconceptions related to the crane safety and operation. Being in a construction industry whether small, medium or large, everybody must have the idea about the safety parameters. Well, many construction industries deny the parameter facts and thus are dragged towards hassle. What are these parameters, and how dangerous they can be if not followed according to the rule? Let’s read. According to crane manufacturers in India, there are 5 most common mistakes any crane user can do. Loading: You think that loading a crane extra will not create any difference, but this is the most dangerous rule you are about to break. The crane might support
the overloading, but not for long. A few passes might go fine, but after trying overloading couple of times, you can make the hoists week, and in coming future, chances of any accident increase. Hoist Movement: Movement of electric wire rope hoist should be straight up and straight down only. Does not matter how long the rope is, it should be used as it is meant to be. The ropes should move within its groove, if it leaves the groove, it may cause severe accident. Upper Limit Switch: It is designed to prevent the collision. If you want to pull the load to an extra limit, till upper limit switch, use extra hook. Ask your service provider to attach an extra switch. The first switch is for safety, and not for the operations. Breaks: Almost every crane has two breaks, one is used commonly, and second is used when there is no electricity. However, in both the cases, it is not safe to stand under the loaded crane and think that the breaks will hold the load. No matter how strong you think the break is, never stand under the loaded crane. Reverse button: Gone are the days where people would use reverse feather to control the velocity of the vehicle when it was travelling straight. These days, smooth start and stop buttons take care of that part. Now OSHA strictly says no for the reverse button. No matter how long you have been using the crane, periodical checking of the crane is mandatory. Never ignore any of the points and make sure you use full safety.
