  1. ISSUE 11|July 2013 Happy holidays everyone! Upcoming events Value of the month Our value of the month is Respect. We explored what respect actually means, how it links to many other values and how it helps us with our behaviour policy and code of conduct in school. The children were able to explain the link between respect, diversity and freedom and agreed with the motto ‘You earn respect by giving respect’. Pixies Hill is well known for being a caring and inclusive school, dedicated to improving and developing. The current Leadership team is so well supported by the children, parents and governors and I am very excited to be part of such a hardworking and ambitious team. The staff and children at Pixies Hill have already made me feel very welcome and I’m looking forward to meeting you all in September!’ End of Year Results A big well done to all the children and staff who have worked so hard all year. We have meticulously tracked all children using our new data systems this year and are please to report good overall progress in all classes. The Year 6s are leaving at their best having achieved some of the highest grades ever. A particular mention should go to all the mathematicians who achieved level 6, a feat never scaled before. Please visit the school website and click on ‘SATs Results’ for a more detailed break down and how we have used special pupil premium money to help close gaps across the school. Amanda Groves | Teacher & SLT member Celebration Evening Thank you to all who attended our celebration evening. If you missed out then here are a few snaps of what it was like and what you missed out on!

  2. Stars ofthe week Goodbye Year 6, Mrs Dickson, Mrs McAllister and Mr Franklin Every end to a school year always brings new hopes and possibilities but is always tinged with sadness. Our Year 6 class have been exceptional this year – they are a credit to the school and their families and will be sorely missed. Year 6 have been a shining example to our younger children, diligently fulfilling their weekly roles with great emotional maturity. They have also worked exceptionally hard and will bring their sense of values into their new schools. We were also keen to recognise the hard work of Mrs McAllister and Mr Franklin whose guidance, support and skilled teaching have raised achievement in Year 5. As for Mrs Dickson, what else can we say about someone who has dedicated 23 years to one school with such loyalty, purpose and care….Enjoy a new season in life and a very happy retirement! Week of 05/07/13 Reception: Freya Derham Year 1: Whole Class Trip Year 2: Charlie Carroll Year 3: Isobelle Hook Year 4: Harry Charlton Year 5: Milli Winks Year 6: Callum Blackshaw Week of 12/07/13 Reception: Zack Broadbent Year 1: Daniel Martinez-Wise Year 2: Kian Blackshaw Year 3: Kian Heneghan Year 4: Byron Clarkson Year 5: Thomas Cornish Year 6: Maisie Bassett KS2 production Well done to Y5 and Y6 on ‘The Peace Child’ production which was a wonderful story set in an African village loosely based on the true story of warring tribes yet filled with colour, dance and very catchy songs. A big thank you to teachers, teaching assistants and parents who worked behind the scenes on props, scenery, singing, casting and putting the whole thing together. Rotary Club competition The local rotary club asked our Year 6s to take part in a competition. They were asked to write a piece in response to the title ‘What the world will be like in thirty years’ time.’ They received 300 entries and Year 6 had eight entries selected. Moreover, Maisy Batchelor’s piece was so good it was judged in second place overall. Well done to everyone who took part! And finally... May I take this opportunity to wish you a restful holiday. I can barely believe that my first year at Pixies has come to an end. It has been a fantastic year and I have been made to feel very welcome from all stakeholders. If you feel, as we do, that the year has been a big success then please visit the parent view website at www.parentview.ofsted.gov.ukand register your opinions. Well done to everyone!
