  1. Welcome!Pre Health Club

  2. What is Pre-Health Club? Student-led organization on NC State's campus that was founded with the purpose of providing its members with the skills and opportunities to enhance their academic, networking and clinical skills in pursuit of a health-related profession. Includes: (a) 6 special interest groups: Medical/Podiatry, Dental, Optometry, Pharmacy, PA/Nursing, PT/OT, (b) The NCSU HOSA Chapter (c) and two honor societies AED (pre-health/pre-medical) and DDS (pre-dental) Honor Societies. 8 points each semester to be considered "active" club members - these points come from attending meetings, participating in service projects sponsered by Health PAC and in conjunction with individual interest groups and from attending events supported by Health PAC and the club and announced on the listserv as "point events"

NC MOM Dental Clinics • NCMOM Clinics • Kill Devil Hills- October 24-25 • Dare County Parks and Recreation Center 602 Mustian Street • ALL VOLUNTEER SPOTS FILLED • Winston Salem- November 14-15 • The Education Building at the Fairgrounds 421 W 27th Street Jake Laxer, jalaxer@ncsu.edu will send out sign up information a few weeks before both clinics. Sign ups are on a first come first serve basis and spots are limited. Do Not Sign Up Unless you know that you can volunteer for the Entire Day (6:00 am-7:00 pm on Fridays and 6:00 am until pack up is completed on Saturday)

Delta Delta Sigma Pre-Dental Honor Society • 2014-2015 DDS pledge applications due at October 20th DDS meeting(Bostian 2722, 5:45-6:45 pm) • Application Requirements • Must have sophomore status (30 credits) • Have at least a 3.5 GPA • During Pledge Semester • Accumulate 12 PHC points • Submit an application for review (due at the October 20th DDS meeting) • Participate in at least one of two service projects • Participate in at least two of three social events • Attend and stay for the duration of all DDS and Pre-Dental Club meetings

This is what you all overwhelmingly voted for! Monday, November 10th from 5-7pm. Meet us at Chipotle. • Second QPR suicide prevention training Monday, November 3rd, 6-7pm. Limited to 30 spots. AED - October Events • Oct 27th Student Panel Meeting (2722 Bostian 6-7pm) • Speakers: current Pharm, Med, Dental, Nursing students • Learn about what they did to get into professional school • Potential recently graduated optometrist, PA, and PT also • ALL IGs invited to attend! • Oct 15th Cueva de Lobos Fundraising Event (6pm-close) • Earn 1 PHC point for attendance/purchase • Oct 18th Raleigh Food Bank Service Event (9-12pm) • 1 PHC point for each hour • Oct 26th Build-A-Bear Service/Social (1-2:30pm) • All PHC members invited to attend! (1 pt) • Oct 28th Jason’s Deli Fundraising Event (5-10pm) • Earn 1 PHC point for attendance/purchase

  11. UNICEF-ELIMINATE ELIMINIATE is a project of UNICEF that aims to prevent Neonatal and Maternal Tetanus by providing vaccines ($1.80 per vaccine). This disease causes death in infants within four days of birth, and causes the baby agony when touched.

  15. Statistics • Phlebotomy according to the Dept. Of Labor there are 101,300 available right now. • In 2016 that number will double 116,495 • Medical Assistants has 560,800 jobs available • In 2016 there will be 563,200

Career Opportunities Phlebotomist: Inpatient & Outpatient facilities, Nursing Homes, Urgent Cares, Lab companies, Prison’s, Health Departments, Temp traveling positions, etc Medical Assistants: Outpatient facilities linked to hospitals, Doctors offices, Urgent cares, Schools, Temp Agencies, Dentist, etc The careers listed above will give clinical hours needed to apply for Nursing, PA, or MED school, also help you to develop a strong network base in the community.
