  9. ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS LPG • • Low emissions of SPM, CO, NOx and unburnt hydrocarbons • Non-toxic and non-poisonous • No heavy metals • Compared to gasoline (ULSP), LPG yields • 50% less CO • 35% less NOx • 40% less hydrocarbons • 10% less CO2 • 50% less ozone forming potential

ADVANTAGES OF LPG AS FUEL • • Cleaner emission characteristics • High Octane Number • Easily transportable & can be stored in stand-alone facilities • Simple dispensing facilities which can be operated with • minimum support infrastructure • Lower fuel cost per kilometer • Longer engine life • Less consumption of engine oil • Driving range equivalent to gasoline

PROPANE AS AUTO FUEL • Similar to LPG, Propane is an environment friendly fuel • Advantages of propane as vehicular fuel include • – Clean emission characteristics (lower levels of CO, • hydrocarbons, NOx, etc. as compared to Gasoline) • – Competitive fuel cost • – Low maintenance cost of vehicle • – High performance • According to National Propane Gas Association, USA propane • engines can last 2 to 3 times longer than gasoline or diesel engines

OBJECTIVES • CITY GAS& CNG DISTRIBUTION IN VARIOUS CITIES • TO START WITH VIJAYWADA AND HYDERABAD –SECUNDERABAD • TO PROVIDE LPG FOR AUTOMOBILES TO START WITH TIRUPATHI AND TWIN CITY • TO PROVIDE NATURAL GAS/LPG TO SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES and COMMERCIAL CENTRES NOT ON ECO-FRIENDLY FUELS • ASSIST IN TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF ECO FRIENDLY APPLIANCES LIKE GAS BASED AIR CONDITIONING ETC

Contd.. • Work out strategy for conversion of diesel buses to CNG jointly with Government • Work out Safe LPG distribution system in twin city jointly with Government. • Examine and implement safe CNG and LPG grid based distribution for city outlets. • Develop plan for other cities of Andhra Pradesh
